QUICK KICKS
Rivalry Weekend
Georgia concludes the 2026 regular season with a trip to arch-rival Florida Sunday afternoon, the 42nd all-time meeting between the programs. The fixture concludes a full weekend of Georgia-Florida matchups across sports, following a swimming and diving meet in Athens on Friday and the football game in Atlanta on Saturday.
After winning only two of the first 33 contests in the series, Georgia has earned a result in the past eight matchups. The teams have tied each of the past three seasons, following Georgia's first-ever win in Gainesville in 2022. Bulldog head coach Keidane McAlpine is unbeaten against the Gators (3-0-3) at USC and Georgia. He is also 1-0 against Florida head coach Nick Zimmerman, with their previous meeting coming in last year's regular season finale at Mississippi State (1-0).
Decision Day
Georgia enters the final day of conference play with a variety of SEC Tournament seeding outcomes. With a win, the Bulldogs can finish with the No. 5-10 seeds, depending on other conference results. A Georgia tie will result in the No. 8-10 seed, while a loss will drop the Bulldogs to either the No. 11 or No. 12 seed. The Bulldogs clinched their 25th SEC Tournament appearance last week, extending a program record to eight consecutive appearances (2019-26). Under Coach McAlpine, Georgia has advanced at least one round in all four tournament runs, highlighted by the program's first title in 2023.
Close Call at Carolina
For a moment, Georgia believed it had earned a remarkable buzzer beating draw at No. 11 South Carolina last Friday, but it proved to be too good to be true. A late header from Gabbi Ceballos deflected off the cross bar and down behind the goal line, but a video review found the ball crossed after the clock had expired. After South Carolina scored in the 15th minute, Maddy Herniter headed in her second goal of the season off a corner from Hailey Gordon in the 34th minute. The Gamecocks would retake the lead in the 71st minute off a goal from Reagan Schubach and hold on for the win, despite being outshot 16-10 (6-4 in shots on goal).
Road Warriors
Georgia has found success away from home in the Keidane McAlpine era, earning a result in 19 of 24 SEC regular season matches over his first five seasons. Prior to consecutive losses to Alabama and South Carolina, the Bulldogs had won or tied 11 of their last 12 conference road matches dating back to September 2024. The Bulldogs are looking for their first road conference win since the Mississippi State victory last season.
Dawg Bites
Sunday marks the conclusion of Daylight Savings Time, with clocks falling one hour back. Georgia has prevailed twice in the past three years when playing with extra rest on the first Sunday in November (2023 - W, Arkansas; 2024 - W, Texas A&M).
Maddy Herniter's header in the 34th minute ended Georgia's five-match drought of first half goals. Prior to the LSU match on Sept. 27, the Bulldogs had scored in the opening half in nine of its first 10 matches. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs have also tied or lost six matches this season in which they held the lead.
As the season heads down the stretch, Kiera Staude is approaching vaunted territory in program history. With a full 90 minutes against South Carolina, Staude is now a member of the Georgia 6,000-minute club. With 81 appearances and 78 starts, she is nearing the program top 10 in both categories.
Georgia's roster is notable as one of the youngest across the country. With 18 underclassmen, the Bulldogs are tied with Air Force and Saint Bonaventure for the second-most in DI women's soccer, trailing only Middle Tennessee at 22.
