Auburn Takes Series Opener in Back-and-Forth Battle, 11-10

AUBURN, Ala. – The 18th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs dropped a back-and-forth battle against the Auburn Tigers in Friday's series opener, 11-10.
 
Georgia is now 26-14 on the season and 4-11 in SEC play.
 
FAST FACTS
  • In all, the lead changed hands eight times in the back-and-forth game.
  • Tyler Ellison drove in five runs, tying a career high. Ellison's seventh home run of the season, a three-run shot to center, put Georgia ahead 3-2 in the top of the second.
  • Dallis Goodnight finished the game 3-for-5 with a pair of runs. In all, five Bulldogs scattered multiple hits: Goodnight, Ellison, Lyndi Rae Davis, Jaydyn Goodwin, and Sarah Gordon.  
  • The Bulldogs scored four runs in the top of the third. With the bases loaded, Mua Williams drew a walk, and Paislie Allen singled to cut the lead to one, 6-5. Ellison's two-RBI single put the Bulldogs ahead 7-6.
  • Down to her final strike, Davis' two-RBI single in the top of the seventh gave Georgia a 10-9 lead and kept the game alive.
  • Auburn's KK McCrary hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
  • Randi Roelling pitched one and two-thirds in her start, allowing five earned runs on six hits. She struck out two and walked one.
  • Destin Howard pitched a third of an inning in relief. Rachel Gibson pitched two and a third in relief, allowing two unearned runs. Lilli Backes suffered the loss, allowing the walk-off home run in the seventh. She pitched the final two innings, striking out five.
