QUICK KICKS
Down the Stretch
Georgia, now ranked 38th in the NCAA RPI rankings, hosts Tennessee in its penultimate regular season home match Friday evening. Now in a four-way tie for sixth place in the SEC, the Bulldogs are looking for a win after falling last week against No. 4 Mississippi State and tying Florida on the road, while the Lady Vols enter on a two-match losing streak after tough matchups last week against No. 6 Arkansas and No. 14 Auburn.
Georgia is looking to continue its recent success against Tennessee, having won the last two meetings. The Bulldogs upset the Lady Vols, 2-0, in the 2022 SEC Tournament quarterfinals before coming back to win, 2-1, last year in Knoxville, a victory that propelled the team to its first SEC East and Tournament titles. Despite trailing in the all-time series, Georgia leads 8-5-1 in home contests against Tennessee.
Brown's Best
Junior goalkeeper Jordan Brown has provided consistent excellence for Georgia throughout the season, earning the No. 29 spot in Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top 100 Player rankings. Brown was the third-highest ranked goalkeeper in the country and highest-ranked in the SEC. The Las Vegas native leads the SEC in saves (89) and ranks seventh nationally, while also leading the league in saves per game (5.93). She is also on pace to set new program records for saves per game and save percentage in a season. With last Sunday's shutout of Florida, she now ranks fifth in program history with 18 clean sheets.
Sunshine Stalemate
For the second-consecutive season, Georgia and Florida played to a 0-0 draw last Sunday in Gainesville. The Bulldogs were limited in scoring opportunities for the evening with Jocelyn Chinea posting the only shot on frame in the first half with a strong look. Georgia ratcheted up the pressure with four on frame in the second half, but all were saved by Florida keeper Alexa Goldberg. With the tie, Georgia increased its unbeaten streak against Florida to seven, dating back to the 2019 season.
