QUICK KICKS
Here Come the Cowgirls
No. 15 Georgia opens its final week of non-conference play with a visit from Mountain West foe Wyoming Thursday at the Turner Soccer Complex. The Bulldogs and Cowgirls have faced off twice before, with Georgia prevailing, 3-0, in the most recent meeting on Aug. 29, 2003, in Laramie. Coach Keidane McAlpine is 1-0 in his career against Wyoming, besting the Cowgirls, 3-2, during his first season at Washington State. Thursday's match is the first Georgia outing against a Mountain West opponent since losing 2-0 to New Mexico on Sept. 7, 2012 - the Bulldogs are 3-4 all-time against MWC opponents.
Â
Wyoming enters Thursday's match at 2-1-1, following a tight loss at Colorado last Sunday. The Cowgirls scored 25 seconds into the match before surrendering two second half goals in defeat. Wyoming was picked eighth in the MWC preseason poll following a 4-6-9 record in head coach Josh Purdum's first season in Laramie. Purdum's associate head coach Rachael Doyle-Guetlein played for McAlpine in her final two seasons at Washington State, where she was a team captain and two-time Second Team All-Pac-12 performer.

Townes for the Tie
On a balmy summer afternoon on the Palouse, Georgia earned a 1-1 tie against Washington State Sunday afternoon in Pullman. The Bulldogs controlled the pace of play, outshooting the Cougars by a 12-5 margin (5-2 in SOG). Freshman Mya Townes scored her first career goal, a 69th-minute equalizer set up by a great assist from teammate Sage Glover. Wazzu opened the scoring in the 12th minute, snapping a four-match shutout streak by the Georgia defense. The Bulldogs nearly earned a win in the final 90 seconds as Summer Denigan's free kick was on line, but stopped by WSU keeper Keara Fitzgerald to thwart a sixth-straight winning goal for the Bulldog midfielder.
Â
Summer, Summer, Summertime
Redshirt junior midfielder Summer Denigan has asserted herself as one of the nation's top players in the early going of the 2025 season. Through six matches, Denigan has tallied five goals (ranked sixth nationally) and an assist, including a nation-leading four match-winning goals. In the Georgia record books, Denigan ranks fifth in winners with 10 in her career. Two weeks ago, Denigan was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career, followed by placements on TopDrawerSoccer's National Team of the Week and National Player of the Year Leaderboard.
Â
Dominant Dawgs
No. 13 Georgia posted one of its most dominant performances in program history in a 6-0 win over North Florida Aug. 28 at Turner. The Bulldogs put up 21 shots (12 on frame), while allowing zero opponent shots for only the third time in program history and the first since blanking FAU on Sept. 4, 2009. The Georgia defense also allowed zero corner kicks for the second time this season, following the UAlbany match on Aug. 17. Kiera Staude recorded her first career hat trick, working with teammates Sage Glover and Hailey Gordon on a pair of give-and-goes, along with slicing the Osprey backline for her second score. Summer Denigan scored her fourth-consecutive match-winning goal with a free kick strike in the 13th minute, giving her the national lead in winners. The Bulldogs' offense has been humming in the early going with 18 goals in six matches (10th nationally), dramatically outpacing the mark set in two of Coach McAlpine's first three seasons: 12 (2024) and 8 (2023)
Â
Collecting Clean Sheets
The Georgia backline and goalkeepers mounted an impressive four-match shutout streak, the program's longest since five straight early in the 2022 season. The strong play of the Bulldogs' backline has resulted in freshman keeper Hannah Folliard only tallying 10 saves in her first six starts, while redshirt freshman Nicole Bidun has yet to face a shot on frame in three appearances. In turn, the Bulldogs' defensive prowess has opened up the offensive attack, with Georgia's 17 goals during the four-match streak equaling the same scoring output produced during the program-best eight-match shutout streak set in 1999.
