FORT WORTH, Texas – The 17^th-ranked University of Georgia soccer team suffered its first defeat of the 2026 campaign, falling, 2-1, to TCU Thursday evening before 1,177 spectators at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

After an early TCU (2-1-1) goal was disallowed following a video review, Georgia (2-1-2) took the lead in the eighth minute as sophomore forward Mya Townes took advantage of an empty net for her second goal of the season. Townes' score was preceded by an assist from senior midfielder Kiera Staude, and a terrific set-up pass from fellow senior midfielder Honoka Hamano.
The Horned Frogs quickly countered with a 10^th-minute equalizer from Eres Freifeld. TCU would extend the lead in the 25^th minute as Grace Coppinger ran through the Bulldog defense on a free kick for the score.
In the second half, Georgia almost found the equalizer in the 54^th minute as junior midfielder Kieryn Jeter's shot narrowly clipped the cross bar and missed the net. TCU then tacked on another score as Emma Yolinsky knocked a ball into the bottom right corner of the net in the 62^nd minute.
The Bulldogs cut the deficit in half with just over two minutes remaining as graduate forward Emma Pettersen scored her first Georgia goal off the cross from freshman forward Maya Woolforde, who posted a point for the second-straight match.
Georgia led TCU in shots, 12-9, although the Horned Frogs knotted a 5-4 advantage in shots on frame. Hamano, Woolforde, and fifth year midfielder Sage Glover each tallied a team-best two shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Folliard earned her second start of the season before ceding to graduate keeper Jordan Brown in the second half. Each goalkeeper finished with one save apiece.
