January 31, 2025 | Equestrian
ATHENS, Ga. – Following a two-month break, the fourth-ranked University of Georgia equestrian team returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m. to host Lynchburg at the UGA Equestrian Complex.
The Bulldogs begin the spring schedule with a 5-2 record and an undefeated, 3-0, Southeastern Conference (SEC) slate. Georgia toppled top-ranked Auburn in a nail-biting 11-9 victory to conclude the fall season, delivering the Tigers' only loss this year.
Georgia also picked up a top win against No. 2 Texas A&M, 9 (1676.25)-9 (1659.75). This was the Bulldogs' first tiebreaker win in the current National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) scoring system.
Lynchburg opens the spring season second in the NCEA single discipline rankings. The Hornets come to Bishop 4-2 in NCEA competition, picking up additional wins at the Lynchburg, Hollins and Virginia Tech IHSA shows. The Hornets have met multiple SEC opponents this week as they dropped an 8-2 to decision to South Carolina on Friday afternoon before traveling to Bishop.
The Bulldogs and Hornets have met once before in the 2022-23 season. Georgia recorded a 9-1 Jumping Seat victory, including a 5-0 sweep in Flat.
Fans are encouraged to wear white to Saturday's meet. There will be a "Color Your Own Horseshoe" station at the Kid's Zone located at the promotions table.
