
Seventh Inning Rally Lifts No. 5 Georgia to Series Sweep, 4-1

OXFORD, Miss. – The fifth-ranked Georgia softball team used a three-run seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie and defeat Ole Miss 4-1 on Sunday, sweeping the road series at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
Georgia improves to 27-4 on the season and 5-1 in SEC play.
Sara Mosley and Dallis Goodnight each had two hits, combining for four of Georgia's five hits in the series finale.
Shelby Walters pitched two innings in her start, allowing the lone Rebel (20-11, 3-6) run on two hits. Madison Kerpics pitched two scoreless innings out of the pen, striking out two. Lilli Backes (12-1) earned the victory, pitching the final three innings.
A defensive miscue by the Bulldogs allowed an Ole Miss to score in the bottom of the opening inning, 1-0. Walters stranded a runner on second to limit the early damage.
The Bulldogs knotted the game on a bases-loaded walk to Jaydyn Goodwin in the third, 1-1.
After a 1-1 draw for three innings, Georgia plated three runs in the seventh to break the tie. With bases loaded, Mosley singled to right, putting Georgia in front 2-1. Groundouts by Jayda Kearney and Sydney Kuma each plated a run, adding key insurance runs late in the game, 4-1.
Backes retired the Rebels in order in the seventh to secure the series sweep.
On Wednesday, Georgia continues its road swing with an in-state matchup at Kennesaw State. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
