No. 6 Georgia Downs Seventh-Ranked Fresno State, 10-5

FRESNO, Calif – The sixth-ranked University of Georgia equestrian team defeated No. 7 Fresno State, 10-5, at the Student Horse Center in Fresno, Calif. Friday afternoon.
 
Georgia (4-2, 2-0 SEC) traveled to the West Coast for a pair of meets. The Bulldogs topped UC Davis Thursday morning, 13-7, and remain undefeated in road contests.
 
Fast Facts
  • Georgia took an early lead, winning Fences 3-2.
    • Fifth year Jordan Toering rode to a season-high 87 to open the event. Sophomore Tessa Downey followed suit with an event-high score of 88 to win her point.
  • In the western arena, Georgia claimed Horsemanship, winning the event 2-1, to give the Bulldogs a 5-3 lead at halftime.
    • Sophomore Abbey Zawisza won her point with a 74.5-point ride. Freshman Shaelyn Boutelle outscores her opponent by 9.5 points and rode to a score of 73.5
  • Fresno State responded in the second half with a 3-2 win of Reining.
    • Junior Shelby Lynch scored a 71 to win her point. Junior Raegan Shepherd scored the final point of the event and the meet for Georgia with a 64.5 to outscore her opponent 60.5.
  • Georgia won Flat by a 3-0 margin.
    • Three Bulldogs scores in the 80s. Toering scored an 80. Fifth year Sophia Pilla rode to an 83. Senior Jessica Guginsky rounded out the event with an 81.
  • The Bulldogs collected three of four Most Outstanding Performer honors.
    • Pilla was awarded her first MOP of the season, marking the ninth recognition of her career.
    • Boutelle was awarded her second MOP of her career. The freshman also collected outstanding honors on Thursday against UC Davis.
    • This recognition was the first of Downey's career.
 
Up Next
The Bulldogs will return home to Bishop to host Auburn on Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. All fans are encouraged to wear red. Kids can color their own horseshoe at the Promotions Table. Admission is free.
 
The Auburn meet will also be Alumni Weekend for Georgia Equestrian. Alumni will be honored in center ring during halftime followed by an alumni social Friday evening at Wire Park in Watkinsville.
