EQ: No. 6 Georgia Falls to Second-Ranked Auburn, 12-8

AUBURN, Ala. – The sixth-ranked University of Georgia equestrian team fell to No. 2 Auburn, 12-8, on Friday afternoon at the Auburn University Equestrian Center.
The individual scores for the Bulldogs and Tigers were determined by close margins. Nine points were awarded by an advantage of one point or less.
Competition started in Flat with the Tigers outscoring the Bulldogs, 4-1. Auburn put one point on the board to start the event. Catalina Peralta scored the point for Georgia with an 88 before the final three were awarded to the Tigers.
Meanwhile in Reining, the Tigers scored three points to the Bulldogs' two. Auburn earned the first point of the event. Raegan Shepherd a point for Georgia with a ride of 71.5. Shelby Lynch followed up with a score of 69.5 to earn the second point for the Bulldogs. The Tigers grabbed the final two points to win the event.
Georgia trailed 7-3 after two events.
The Tigers added three more points to the board in Fences, barely edging out the Bulldogs, 3-2. Auburn won the first two rides before Tessa Downey's 86 earned Georgia a point. Peralta tied the event with a ride of 89, beating her opponent by one point. Auburn answered with another point to close out the event on top.
Georgia sealed the win in Horsemanship. The Tigers earned the first two points before the Bulldogs took the final three. Grace Himes topped her opponent by one point with a score of 74. Jillian Stopperich then scored a 74.5 to tie the event. Jordan Davis won the final ride of the day to win the event for Georgia with a 72.
Georgia is back in action next week as they travel to Martin, Tenn. to face No. 1 TCU on Oct. 27 and No. 10 UT Martin on Oct. 28.
