BISHOP, Ga. --- The No. 5 University of Georgia equestrian team topped No. 4 South Carolina, 10-6, on a cold Saturday afternoon at the UGA Equestrian Complex.Â
Â
In her debut ride, freshman Horsemanship rider Leah Anderson secured the win for the Bulldogs with a score of 75.5 and earned Most Outstanding Performance honors. Junior Lindsay Guynn received MOP honors for her ride in Reining. Â
Â
With the win, Georgia moves to 2-2 on the season, all against Southeastern Conference opponents.Â
Â
"I'm really proud of them, the ladies have been working hard for this competition today. Overall, there were a lot of dominant rides with some new faces and horses. So many things, including this wonderful weather, that can be a bit unpredictable. I loved how they just really went to work, had some incredible rides and huge scores. I'm very confident on how things went today. It feels good to have some retribution from last fall."
Â
Georgia jumped to a 3-1 lead in Fences. After dropping the first point to South Carolina, freshman Jordan Toering pushed the next point with a score of 83. Georgia claimed the next three points of the event with rides from sophomore Ceci Bresch, senior Ali Tritschler, and freshman Emma Reichow.
Â
Georgia added three points in Reining. Junior Lindsay Guynn won the first point with a 71.5 over South Carolina's McKenzie Duncan's score of 69.5. Junior Courtney Blumer followed suit, riding to a 70.5 and adding to Bulldogs' point total. South Carolina took the next two points. In the anchor position and after being granted a re-ride, senior Jordan Carpenter scored a 70 to top Emma Lane's 68.5.
Â
Georgia added one point in Flat. South Carolina took the first point of the event, before Toering pushed the next point with a 68. Tritschler added a tally for Georgia with a 75-67 win over South Carolina's Kit Cunningham. Senior Isabella Heckler rode to a tie against her opponent before South Carolina took the final point of the event.Â
Â
Horsemanship started as it began to rain. Junior Taylor Burgess led off by edging her opponent, 76-75. The next point went to South Carolina and then Anderson secured the win for the Bulldogs with a score of 75.5. Junior Kendall Gill earned the final point of the day, edging her opponent by a one-point margin. In the last ride, senior Sara Lewis pushed the point.Â
Â
The Bulldogs are back in action on Feb. 19 as the Jumping Seat squad hosts Sweet Briar College starting at 11 a.m. at the UGA Equestrian Complex.
