February 27, 2021 | Equestrian
AUBURN, Ala. --- The No. 3 University of Georgia equestrian dropped a 12-3 decision to the top-ranked Auburn Tigers on Saturday afternoon at the Auburn Equestrian Complex.Â
Â
"There was a lot of fight today and we rode extremely well," Georgia head Coach Meghan Boenig said. "The score is not reflective of the strength we saw today and we absolutely left here wanting more. There are always things that we can continue to work on and we are excited to get back on the road and compete against Texas A&M next week."
Â
Competition started with Fences, where Auburn jumped to a 4-0 lead. Junior Annalise Reed led off scoring an 80, tying Auburn's McKayla Langmeier to push the first point of the day. The Bulldogs continued to score a 79 or above, but the Tigers took the rest of the Fences points.Â
Â
The Bulldogs continued to collect high scores of 84 and above in Flat, but split the points with the Tigers. Auburn took the first two rides before senior Ali Tritschler pushed the third Flat point with a score of 84. Senior Isabelle Heckler rode to her season-best score of 87 to win her point. Freshman Nora Andrews finished the event with another point for UGA with a score of 84.Â
Â
Auburn held an 8-1 lead after two events.
Â
Georgia added one point in Horsemanship. The Tigers won the first four points of the event before junior Sara Lewis closed the event by edging her opponent 74-73.5.Â
Â
The Tigers only gained one point in Reining with the teams pushing the other four points of the event. Junior Lindsay Guynn tied her opponent with a score of 72. Auburn took the next point before freshman Sophie Lucas matched Auburn's Taylor Searles with a score of 71 before sophomore Caitlin Lyons pushed the final point of the day.Â
