COLLEGE STATION, Texas --- The fourth-ranked University of Georgia equestrian team topped No. 3 Texas A&M, 9-8, in its final regular season road meet on Saturday afternoon at the Hildebrand Equine Complex.
Â
Junior Lindsay Guynn earned Most Outstanding Performance honor for her Reining ride after defeating her Aggie opponent by half a point with a score of 74.5.
Â
"It was a great way to close out the season- with a win on the road and against a very good team," Georgia head coach Meghan Boenig said. "I'm excited for Lindsay and her MOP. I loved seeing such deserving high scores, particularly in Fences. Everyone really came out here to push it and knew what they wanted to show. I appreciate the focus and drive from this team as we build towards postseason. We are looking forward to hosting the SEC Championship in a few weeks."
Â
With all Bulldogs riding to high scores of 84 and above, Georgia (4-3) jumped to a 3-1 lead in Fences to start the competition. Texas A&M (3-4) won the first point before senior Ali Tritschler pushed the next one with a tie score of 88. Freshman Jordan Toering defeated her Aggie opponent by 10 with a score of 84, which was matched by junior Annalise Reed to add to the Bulldogs' total. Senior Hayley Mairano finished the event with a 86-81 win.Â
Â
Despite scores of 75 or better from Georgia's riders, Texas A&M pinched the gap in Horsemanship, taking a 3-2 advantage. Junior Kendall Gill rode to a 76 to claim the first Western point of the day. The Aggies took the next two points, before junior Taylor Burgess defeated her opponent, 76.5-69.5. Texas A&M grabbed the final Horsemanship point.Â
Â
Holding a 5-4 lead after two events, Georgia added three points in Flat. Sophomore Ceci Bresch edged out her Aggie counterpart by one with a score of 85. Points alternated from there. Texas A&M claimed the next point and senior Isabelle Heckler rode to a score of 92 to win a point for Georgia. After Texas A&M won the fourth point of the event Tritschler took the final Jumping Seat point with a 10-point win margin and a score of 92.Â
Â
