ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia equestrian team seeks to win a fourth Southeastern Conference Championship title this weekend as the No. 2 overall seed. Georgia is set to host the championship on March 26-27 at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga.
Â
Georgia will kick off the competition on Friday against the third-seed Texas A&M Aggies. This marks the third time the two teams will meet this season after Georgia was victorious on both occasions. The teams most recently met at the beginning of the month to close out regular season competition in Bryan-College Station, Texas.Â
Â
The Bulldogs finished the regular season 3-3 in conference play.
Â
Undefeated Auburn is the No. 1 seed and will face off against No. 4 South Carolina at 2:30p.m. ET on Friday.
Â
Seeding for the SEC Equestrian Championships was determined by conference winning percentage at the conclusion of a six-meet conference regular season schedule for each team, during which each squad faces every SEC foe home and away. Georgia defeated Texas A&M twice and beat the Gamecocks in February at the UGA Equestrian Complex.
Â
In the semifinal round of competition on Friday, March 26, the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds will face off in the morning session at 9 a.m. ET, followed by the No. 1 and No. 4 seeds squaring off in the afternoon session, beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET. The two losing teams will meet in a consolation round on Saturday, March 27 at 9 a.m. The two winning teams from the semifinals will then meet in the finals to determine the SEC Champion.
