Georgia Opens SEC Tournament Play Against Texas

NORMAN, Okla. — The No. 4 seeded Georgia women's tennis team (17-4, 12-3 SEC) is set to open postseason play at the 2026 Southeastern Conference Tournament with a quarterfinal match against No. 5 Texas (17-6, 11-4 SEC) on Friday, April 17 at 7 p.m. ET at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

  • Georgia enters the SEC Tournament as the No. 4 seed after finishing second in the regular season. No. 1 seed Oklahoma, No. 2 seed Texas A&M and No. 3 seed Auburn shared the regular-season title in a three-way tie.
  • Georgia will begin its quest for a fourth consecutive SEC Tournament title and its fifth in the last six seasons. The Bulldogs won the title in 2023 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, as well as in 2024 as hosts, and again in 2025 in Auburn, Alabama.
  • Against Texas, Georgia leads the all-time series 14-6 but has lost the last two meetings, including a 4-1 decision in March.

  • Texas has three players ranked in the latest singles rankings: Carmen Herea at No. 3, Anastasia Abbagnato at No. 6, and Eszter Meri at No. 50.
  • The Longhorns also feature three ranked doubles pairs: Salma Drugdova and Abbagnato at No. 28, Abbagnato and Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo at No. 49, and Elizabeth Ionescu and Christasha McNeil at No. 50.
