FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The University of Georgia women's swimming and diving team opened the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships with a season-best performance Wednesday evening at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.
 
Following the first night of competition, Georgia ranks 14th overall with 12 points. Stanford and Virginia are tied at the top with 74 points.
 
Fast Facts
800y Freestyle Relay – Georgia earned Second Team All-America honors with a 11th-place time of 6:56.04. Senior Duné Coetzee led off the race with a time of 1:44.16, followed by splits of 1:43.69 by junior Shea Furse and 1:43.91 by freshman Marie Landreneau. Junior Ieva Maluka closed out the race with a 1:43.98 anchor leg, giving the Bulldogs a season-best time in the event.

The NCAA Women's Championships kick into full gear Thursday with the 500y freestyle, 200y individual medley, 50y freestyle, 1-meter diving, and 200y freestyle relay. Seniors Rachel Stege, Coetzee, and Abby McCulloh are all seeded in the top 16 in the 500 free, with the trio earning First Team All-America honors last season. Maluka is seeded 18th in the 200y IM, while Eboni McCarty ranks 40th in the 50y freestyle.
