ATHENS – The sixth-ranked University of Georgia equestrian team returns to the UGA Equestrian Complex to host a pair of top-ranked opponents this weekend. The Bulldogs will host No. 4 SMU tomorrow at 2 p.m. before taking on second-ranked Texas A&M Oct. 19 at 11 a.m.
The Bulldogs opened the season against top-ranked TCU. The Horn Frogs narrowly secured the win by a 10-8 margin. Junior Tessa Brown took home the Most Outstanding Performer honor in Fences, earning her SEC Fences Rider of the Month for September.
SMU (1-1) opened the season against then top-ranked TCU. The Mustangs tied, 10-10, but dropped the decision due to a tie breaker.
The Aggies (2-0) opened the 2024-25 season against SMU on Oct. 3. Texas A&M won the matchup, 14-6. They then traveled to Delaware State, where they defeated the Hornets, 15-4.
The Bulldogs own a 5-3 record against the Mustangs, with a 2-1 record in Bishop. The two teams met once in the 2023-24 season. Georgia dropped a close, 10-9, decision.
The Mane Dawgs boast a 10-2 record against the Aggies in Bishop, fueling a 24-14 all-time record against Texas A&M. The Aggies traveled to Georgia last season, and the Bulldogs topped the second-ranked team, 13-7. The teams met again at the National Collegiate Equestrian Association National Championship Quarterfinals, and the Aggies advanced after an 11-7 win.
The first 50 fans to Friday's meet will receive a cupcake in honor of National Cupcake Day, and the first 100 fans on Saturday will receive a pink ribbon for the Pink Out Meet. Admission is free.
