April 18, 2021 | Softball
ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 20 Georgia softball team dropped a 5-2 decision to 10th-ranked Arkansas Sunday afternoon at Jack Turner Stadium.Â
Â
The Bulldogs scattered six hits, led by a two-hit game from sophomore Sydney Kuma. She and junior Savana Sikes each knocked solo home runs in the contest.Â
Â
Georgia and Arkansas' combined seven runs all came via home runs, combining for five in the game.Â
Â
Graduate Alley Cutting (6-4) suffered the loss in her start in the circle. Cutting worked two-thirds of an inning, giving up four runs. Graduate Mary Wilson Avant entered in the first and pitched the remainder of the game, fanning eight Razorbacks through six and a third innings.Â
Â
Home runs by Braxton Burnside and Kayla Green put the Razorbacks out in front by four early in the first inning.Â
Â
Sikes got one of the first inning runs backs in the bottom of the first with a leadoff home run to put the Bulldogs on the board, 4-1.Â
Â
Both teams traded solo home runs in the third inning from Hannah McEwen and Kuma, bringing the score to 5-2 after three innings of play.Â
Â
The 5-2 score would stand the remainder of the rest of the game as Arkansas would go on to pick up the victory and the series sweep of Georgia.Â
Â
Georgia closes out its homestand Tuesday when top-ranked Oklahoma comes to Athens for a doubleheader. The twin bill is set to begin at 5 p.m. on SEC Network.Â

On today's game against Arkansas…
"I was proud of the team's resilience. I think Arkansas's a really good team—got to give them credit for what they were able to do coming in here. But I am proud of the team for fighting. I though Mary (Wilson Avant) had a really good outing when she got into the game. I though Sydney Kuma had some excellent at-bats. Couple of really, really good defensive plays on the infield and as well in the outfield. Sydney Chambley had an amazing one at the wall in left, Jayda Kearney had a fantastic one going back in center, and C.J. Landrum did excellent on a crazy wild ball at the fence in right. Just proud of the defense for fighting. Just got to keep getting tougher."
