Bulldogs Earn Bronze on Opening Night of SEC Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. – For the second-consecutive year, the University of Georgia men's swimming and diving team opened the SEC Championships with a bronze medal in the 800 freestyle relay, taking third Tuesday evening at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
In the relay, freshman Luca Urlando, sophomores Zach Hils and Bradley Dunham, and freshman Jake Magahey finished third with a season-best A-cut time of 6:14.00 that ranks fourth in school history. Urlando led off the race with a 200 freestyle split of 1:34.56, with Magahey tallying an anchor leg time of 1:32.55. Posting a split of 1:33.05 in second position, Hils earned his second-straight 800 freestyle bronze.
In the opening 200 medley relay, the team of seniors Javier Acevedo, Jack Dalmolin, Camden Murphy, and sophomore Dillon Downing placed fourth with an A-cut time of 1:23.62. Acevedo led off the race with a season-best 50 backstroke split of 21.09, while Downing turned in a 50 freestyle split of 18.59 to help the Bulldogs close the final gap.
Through one day of swimming competition and the full completion of the diving championships, Georgia sits in ninth place with 152 points. Kentucky leads the field with 338 points, followed by Tennessee in second with 287 and hosting Missouri in third with 232.
Georgia returns to the water tomorrow for the first full day of action in Columbia, swimming in the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, and 200 freestyle relay. Prelims start at 11 a.m. ET, followed by finals at 6 p.m. ET. Both sessions will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
