SCOUTING SOUTH CAROLINA

South Carolina has earned its No. 1 ranking this season with a NCAA-best six wins against ranked opponents. The Gamecocks feature a balanced scoring attack with four of their five starters all averaging in double figures.

Freshman Aliyah Boston leads the way for South Carolina, pacing the team in both scoring (13.4 ppg) and rebounding (9.1 rpg). South Carolina is one of the best rebounding squads in the country and averages over 17 offensive boards per game.

LAST MEETING AGAINST SOUTH CAROLINA

Then-sophomore guard Que Morrison hit a running layup to tie the game at 53-53 in the fourth quarter, but the South Carolina Gamecocks pushed past the Lady Bulldogs in the final minutes for the 65-57 final last season at Colonial Life Arena.

Georgia was plagued by a free-throw discrepancy that featured a 9-of-11 mark for the Lady Bulldogs compared to a 21-of-26 clip for the Gamecocks. Georgia also shot 39 percent from the floor, including just five made field goals in the fourth quarter.

UP NEXT FOR GEORGIA

Georgia is in the midst of a tough stretch of games featuring four contests against ranked opponents. The next test for the Lady Bulldogs will come on the road at No. 15 Texas A&M.

GEORGIA TAKING ON NO. 1

Georgia is one of four teams -- joining Indiana, Washington State and UConn -- to play both Baylor and South Carolina – the two squads ranked No. 1 in this week's polls. The Lady Bulldogs are looking to knock off a No. 1-ranked team for the first time since the 2003-04 season, when Georgia defeated top-ranked Tennessee 68-66 in overtime at the SEC tournament.

DEFENSE TRAVELED TO FAYETTEVILLE

The Lady Bulldogs put together a remarkable performance against one of the nation's top offensive teams Thursday at Arkansas. Not only was it a season low in points and 31 below the team's average, but the Razorbacks also committed a season-high 20 turnovers. After being down 43-36 in the third quarter, Georgia went on a 19-2 run and outscored Arkansas 28-12 the rest of the way for the win.

MORRISON BACK TO FRESHMAN FORM

During the 2017-18 season, then-freshman Que Morrison started 32 of 33 games on her way to placing on the SEC All-Freshman Team. Following surgery to repair a torn meniscus in her left knee to begin her sophomore campaign, Morrison struggled to find her rhythm. Finally, she seems to have hit her stride with four double-figure scoring games in her last five contests. Morrison is also known as one of Georgia's top defenders and routinely guards the opponents' best player night-in and night-out.

SHANIYA PROVIDES SPARK

Georgia guard Shaniya Jones has provided a much-needed offensive jolt for the Lady Bulldogs, tallying back-to-back double-figure scoring games this week. Jones has seen a considerable uptick in playing time, seeing the floor for a career-high 21 minutes against Auburn and then 20 minutes at Arkansas.

CHAPMAN GETS THE POINT

Another bright spot for Georgia over the last couple of games has been the play of freshman point guard Chloe Chapman. Even though her scoring numbers do not jump off the stat sheet, Chapman helped manage a scoring run in the second and third quarters against Auburn, before playing 13 minutes in a road win at Arkansas.

CALDWELL'S OFFENSIVE IMPORTANCE

Maya Caldwell has started 18 of 19 games this season and has reached double figures 10 times. The Lady Bulldogs own a 7-3 record this season when Caldwell scores in double digits.

In games won, she is the team's second-leading scorer with 11.3 points per game, hitting 43.2 percent of her shots. In seven losses, Caldwell averages 7.6 ppg.

OVERCOMING BAD QUARTERS

Georgia has scored in single digits in at least one quarter during six games this season. The Lady Bulldogs are 1-5 when having at least one 'bad' quarter in a game, with the lone win coming this past Sunday against Auburn.

NICHOLSON'S FEAT LEADS TO SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK HONOR

Javyn Nicholson had a strong finish to 2019 and an impressive start to her collegiate career.

The Lawrenceville native became the first Lady Bulldog rookie since Tasha Humphrey in 2004 to record back-to-back double-doubles when she totaled 22 points and 10 boards against Gardner-Webb and 10 points, 10 rebounds versus East Carolina.

LADY BULLDOGS FALL LATE TO MISSISSIPPI STATE

Georgia trailed Mississippi State by just one point -- 48-47 -- going into the fourth quarter on Jan. 5. MSU began the fourth period on an 8-0 run to close the game. The Lady Bulldogs shot a season-best 51 percent from the floor in the loss. Georgia then shot just 33.3 percent against Vanderbilt -- the Lady Bulldogs' second-worst percentage of the year.

FRESHMEN POSTS PLAY WELL IN OPENER

Freshmen forwards Javyn Nicholson and Jordan Isaacs played valuable minutes in the first SEC game of their careers against Ole Miss on Jan. 2. Isaacs knocked in two shots in the second half, each giving Georgia the lead in a tie game. Nicholson played 25 minutes, including all 10 in the fourth quarter, and finished with nine boards.

FREE-THROW NUMBERS IMPROVE FOR LADY BULLDOGS

As a team, Georgia has hit 80 percent or better from the free-throw line six times this season. The Lady Bulldogs only hit that 80 percent mark six times all of last season (30 games) . After finishing the 2018-19 campaign ranked 12th in the SEC in free-throw percentage, Georgia is currently ranked third with a 72.6 percent clip.

TOP-25 SUCCESS UNDER TAYLOR

Georgia has won 10 games against top-25 opponents during head coach Joni Taylor's tenure. Georgia's last win against a top-10 team in Athens came in Coach Taylor's first season, when the Lady Bulldogs knocked off No. 10 Mississippi State, 47-43.

GEORGIA APPROACHING MILESTONES

Georgia has a long and storied history, dating back to the 36-year tenure of Hall of Fame head coach Andy Landers. As the Lady Bulldogs enter the 2019-20 campaign, the program is nearing its 1,000th win and is also approaching the 500-victory mark inside Stegeman Coliseum. Georgia boasts a 992-434 overall record since the 1973-74 season and can become one of just two SEC schools (joining Tennessee) to reach 1,000 victories. The Lady Bulldogs boast a 491-111 all-time record at Stegeman Coliseum.
