Series History
Today's outing the first-ever between Georgia and Chaminade.
Â
Scouting The Silverswords
After opening the season with a pair of victories over Alaska Fairbanks and Alaska Anchorage, in the PacWest/GNAC Challenge in Anchorage, Alaska, Chaminade has dropped its first two outings of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational to No. 4 Kansas and UCLA.
Redshirt senior Tyler Cartaino leads the Silverswords on the offensive end with a 16.8 ppg average. Andre Arissol is contributing 12.8 ppg, while Kendall Small adds 9.0 ppg and team-high averages of 4.5 apg and 2.8 spg.
Chaminade is coming off a 23-8 finish in 2018-19 when the Silverswords reached the NCAA West Regional for the third time in head coach Eric Bovaird's eight seasons in Honolulu.
Â
Last Time Out...
Georgia's furious second-half rally trimmed a 28-point deficit to two points with just under five minutes remaining against No. 3 Michigan State, but the Bulldogs eventually suffered a 93-85 decision to the Spartans.
Freshman Anthony Edwards wowed the crowd at the Lahaina Civic Center with 37 points, 33 of those coming after halftime. He also grabbed a team-high six rebounds and posted game-high tallies of three blocks and four steals. Rayshaun Hammonds added 13 points, and Sahvir Wheeler chipped in 10 and a team-high four assists off the bench.
After trailing 52-31 at halftime, the Bulldogs fell behind 61-33 with 16:26 remaining. Georgia used a 14-1 surge to cut the margin to 62-47 at the 12:58 mark. The Bulldogs pulled within single digits twice before another surge, a 12-2 spurt, to close the gap to 75-73.
A 3-pointer from Aaron Henry put State back up by five and Georgia was never able to make it a one-possession game thereafter.
Â
Edwards' Effort Historically
Anthony Edwards' 37-point performance against No. 3 Michigan State occupies the No. 11 spot on Georgia's all-time single-game scoring performances.
Edwards' effort was the most points by a Georgia freshman since Jacky Dorsey put up 41 points against LSU on Jan. 20, 1975.
Edwards' tally was the third-most ever by a Bulldog freshmen. Dorsey scored 43 points versus Southern Miss on Dec. 21, 1974, the UGA record for most points by a freshman.
Â
Dogs Open At A Torrid Pace
Georgia opened the season by scoring 91, 95 and 100 points in the Bulldogs first three outings – the first time UGA scored 90 or more in three consecutive games since December 2006.
That season, the Bulldogs defeated Gardner-Webb, 96-67, on Dec. 2; topped No. 16 Gonzaga, 96-83, on Dec. 16; and bested Jacksonville, 93-77, on Dec. 19.
Â
Fans Flocking To Stegeman
Georgia has drawn 35,152 fans for its first four games at Stegeman Coliseum this season – the second-best tally in school history.
Georgia's best four-game home attendance mark to begin a season was 38,741 in 1981-82, Dominique Wilkins' junior season. Then, the Coliseum's seating capacity was 11,200 (it's 10,523 today) and that quartet of outings included Georgia Tech, Kentucky and Vandy.
Last season, the Bulldogs broke their all-time total attendance record by more than 9,000 fans and had the fourth-best average attendance in program history.
Â
Feel Free To Call Him "Ty-3"
Tyree Crump has continued a familiar theme from throughout his career at Georgia during the first six games of the season, with 13 of his 18 (.722) made field goals coming from behind the 3-point arc.
More than two-thirds of Crump's made shots from the floor as a Bulldog have come on shots from 3-point range.
Crump has knocked down 140 3-pointers in his three-plus seasons in Athens. That accounts for 69.0 percent of his 203 made field goals at Georgia.
Among Georgia's career leaders, Crump currently ranks No. 14 in 3-point makes – just two away from co-No. 12s Ty Wilson and Ray Harrison – and No. 12 in 3-point takes.
