Georgia saw its six-match winning streak come to an end with a three-set loss at the hands of Texas A&M Sunday at Reed Arena. Meghan Donovan recorded her eighth double-double of the season, handing out 25 assists and picking up 11 digs. Kacie Evans led the offense for the Bulldogs with eight kills while also tallying seven digs on the day. Five total Bulldogs recorded five or more kills in the loss including six from Kianna Young in her home state. Kaylah House recorded five kills on nine attempts for a team-best .556 hitting clip.
Using a Strong Start
This season, Georgia has won the first set 12 times. In those matches, the Bulldogs are 11-1 (the lone loss coming at Florida). Reversely, when Georgia drops the opening set, they are 4-4 on the season.
An Offense on the rise
Georgia ranks in the top three of four major offensive average statistical categories in the SEC including aces (1.59), assists (12.91), kills (13.82), and attacks (34.71). In team totals, Georgia leads the SEC in assists (981), kills (1,050), and aces (121). Individually, Rachel Ritchie ranks ninth with 3.22 kills per set.
Aces Wild
As a team, Georgia's 121 aces leads the SEC while ranking second in aces per set at 1.59. Individually, Brynn Chandler (0.32) and Kendall Glover (0.29) rank seventh and ninth, respectively in the conference. In SEC play, the Bulldogs lead the league with 56 total aces and 1.51 aces per set. Chandler co-leads the SEC with 0.46 aces per set.
Helping Hands
Senior setter Meghan Donovan, Georgia's lone senior, ranks sixth all-time with 4,508 career assists. That figure ranks sixth amongst active career leaders in Division I. This season, her 11.33 assists per set ranks ninth in the country and is currently second in the SEC. As a team, Georgia leads the SEC with 981 assists, 861 of which have come from Donovan. Nationally, Georgia ranks 27th with 12.91 assists per set.
The Bulldogs at Home
Georgia has opened the 2019 home schedule with a 6-0 record. In the first three seasons under Tom Black, Georgia has recorded a record at home of 24-11. Season one saw Georgia go 12-5 in Athens. The 2018 season was the first full-time season for Georgia volleyball in Stegeman Coliseum as Georgia went .500 at 6-6. In home-opening tournaments the last two seasons, the Bulldogs are 7-0.
Streaking in League Play
The Bulldogs recently won six-straight SEC matches after dropping a four-setter to Florida. The last time Georgia won six-straight league matches was 2008. The winning streak matches a season-long from earlier this season which is the longest since a seven match streak to open the 2018 season. Georgia's SEC streak tied the second-longest for the Bulldogs in the Tom Black era.
The Newest Member of the 1,000-Dig Club
Junior libero Kendall Glover recorded her 1,000th-career dig in the third set in Georgia's win over #12 Kentucky Oct. 11. The last to reach 1,000 digs was Cassidy Anderson in 2017. Glover is the 20th member of the 1,000-Dig Club.
Welcome to the 1,000-Kill Club
Junior outside hitter Rachel Ritchie was inducted into the 1,000-Kill Club in the fifth set of the LSU match on Oct. 13. The last to eclipse the 1,000-kill mark was Tirah Le'au in 2014. Ritchie is the 18th member of the 1,000-Kill Club.
