ATHENS, Ga. – University of Georgia head volleyball coach Tom Black has announced the signing of outside hitter Alyssa Worden out of the transfer portal.
"We're thrilled to have Alyssa join our program," Black said. "She is a skilled, experienced, and highly competitive player who will bring so much to us on and off the court. We can't wait to get started with her."
Worden comes to Georgia by way of Iowa, where she's been for the last three seasons. She will arrive in Athens as a rising redshirt-junior.
Worden appeared in 31 matches and made 22 starts as a redshirt-sophomore in 2025. She recorded 199 kills, 166 digs, 26 blocks, and 25 aces. In the season finale, Worden tallied a career-high 17 kills against No. 25 Penn State. Against Michigan State, she set a career best with 15 digs. Worden earned CSC Academic All-District and Academic All-B1G honors this past season.
She played in 27 matches, starting 11, and appearing in 94 sets in 2024 as a redshirt-freshman. She posted 44 kills, 28 aces, and 115 digs on the season. She set a career-high 10 kills and 14 digs at Penn State and recorded a career-best six aces at Iowa State. She earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in the classroom.
Worden, from Bartlett, Illinois, was a two-time state champion at South Elgin High School, a first-team all-conference and Upstate 8 Conference Champion, the Team MVP as a junior, Illprep.com and Champaign News Gazette all-state second team, and named to the all-conference academic team. She was ranked the fifth-best player in Illinois according to Illinois Prep Volleyball. She registered a career-best 17 kills against West Chicago in the 2021 Upstate 8 Conference Championship. Off the court, she earned AP Scholar with Honor Award during her junior year and was a member of the National Honor Society.
She is the daughter of Tania Pothel-Worden and John Wordon and has two siblings, Ashley Potel and Annette.
