Georgia Drops 4-0 Decision to No. 19 Tennessee

October 13, 2017 | Soccer

BOX SCORE

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ---
Georgia soccer dropped a 4-0 decision to the No. 19 Tennessee Volunteers at Regal Stadium on Friday night.

"I thought we played fairly well in the first half," Georgia head coach Billy Lesesne said.  "We were organized and kept the play in front of us most of the time.  They ended up scoring on a follow up opportunity in the first half.  In the second half, Tennessee was more dominate.  They scored two goals off set piece situations and we lost a little bit of the fight there.  Our kids battled at moments. We have to be a little more consistent in our approach in both the first half and the second half."

Georgia (4-10-1, 0-7 SEC) took the first shot, but it was Tennessee (13-1-1, 5-1-1 SEC) that was on the board first. The Volunteers took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute after Khadija Shaw took a shot that was saved by Georgia goalkeeper Louise Hogrell, but Shaw was able to capitalize on the rebound, booting the ball across the goal line.

Georgia had two corner kick opportunities in the first 45 minutes of action and did not allow one by the Volunteers.

The Volunteers took a 2-0 lead at the 49:45 mark. After a group of Bulldogs blocked a shot in the box, Hogrell punched the corner kick opportunity over the net.  On the next attempt, Tennessee's Anna Bialczak headed the ball to the back of the net for the score.

Tennessee added to its advantage in the 68th minute, before taking the 4-0 lead in the 81st.  The fourth goal came after another corner kick opportunity allowed Shaw to head the ball for the goal, her second of the game.

The Bulldogs return to Athens to continue SEC play on Thursday, October 19, as the team welcomes the Bulldogs of Mississippi State to the Turner Soccer Complex for a game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Fans now have the opportunity to enjoy Georgia soccer games with a UGA soccer seatback. The seatbacks are thick and comfortable, and can be purchased at the Fan Info table located in the plaza of the Turner Soccer Complex for $5 per game.  You can also save $15 by purchasing a soccer seatback for all nine home matches of the season for a total of $30.
