No. 10 Bulldogs Sweep at No. 14 Mizzou
April 10, 2016 | Softball
COLUMBIA, Mo. --- The No. 10 Georgia softball team (34-8, 8-4) secured the sweep at No. 14 Missouri (26-10, 5-7) after winning the series finale 6-3 on Sunday.

The Bulldogs had nine hits in the game, including three home runs. For the series, Georgia posted eight home runs, led by freshman Alyssa DiCarlo's three. DiCarlo finished the day 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Alex Hugo also notched two hits, including her 15th double of the year.

Chelsea Wilkinson (19-2) went all seven innings with seven hits allowed while just one of the three runs were earned. The lone earned run was also the only earned run for the Tigers on the weekend.

Georgia reached the scoreboard first, as a Iosefa home run, her 14th of the year, brought in Sydni Emanuel as well to make it 2-0 in the opening frame. Missouri responded in the bottom half with a run after an error put a Tiger at third to come home on a RBI groundout.

A run in each of the second and third innings for Georgia increased its lead to 4-1. In the second, Hugo tallied a leadoff double before working her way home on a wild pitch. The following inning had Maeve McGuire sending a two-out home run over right filed.

Back-to-back errors in the third brought in a Tigers run for a 4-2 game, but DiCarlo earned the run back with her home run in the fourth inning while Lacey Sumerlin made it 6-2 with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Missouri threatened in the sixth, as a walk and a hit had runners in scoring position. A RBI single brought in the Tigers' first earned run of the three-game series, cutting the lead to 6-3, but two strikeouts from Wilkinson limited the damage and sealed the win.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday at Georgia Tech with a 6 p.m. ET start on ESPN3.
