LAS CRUCES, N.M. ---- The third-ranked Georgia Equestrian team won three of four events and cruised to an 11-5 victory over host New Mexico State in a 3-way competition that included Fresno State here Friday.

In the afternoon session, the Bulldogs also took a dominating 7-1 lead over Fresno State on the strength of a 4-0 win in Western Horsemanship, as well as three winning rides in Equitation over Fences. The Georgia-Fresno meet will conclude Saturday with the final two events: Equitation on the Flat and Reining.

"I thought it was a terrific day all-around for Georgia Equestrian, especially when you consider our travel and the fact that we competed on another team's home facililty," said Georgia coach Meghan Boenig. "Our girls, across the board, kept their focus, stayed true to our plan and rode extremely well. I look forward to finishing strong tomorrow."

The Bulldog Hunt Seaters won seven of a possible eight rides, including a 4-0 blanking in the Flat event. Kacy Jenkins, Michelle Morris and Carly Anthony all served double duty Friday and were all double winners. Jenkins, in a rare Flat appearance, won her ride in a 1-point decision and added a 2-point victory over Fences. Morris brought home a 2-point Flat win and a whopping 41-point margin over Fences. Anthony posted an 8-point decision in Flat and a 6-point win over Fences.

Georgia's other Hunt Seat point came from sophomore Grace Rogers, whose tally of 74 in the Flat defeated her New Mexico State counterpart by seven points.

On the Western side, the teams split eight points evenly, Georgia taking a 3-1 Reining win and the Aggies winning Horsemanship by an identical score. Reiners taking home points for the Bulldogs included Becca Haaland, Jacklyn Hoyt and Diandra St. Hilaire while the lone point winner for Georgia in Horsemanship was sophomore Maria Salazar.

The Horsemanship squad for Georgia rebounded in the afternoon meet against Fresno State by taking all four rides. Joining Salazar as point-winners were Michelle Fulcher, Katelyn Van Allen and Anna Sasser. In the Fences competition, Anthony (MVP honors), Morris and Jenkins all brought home points.

The Georgia-Fresno State meet will resume Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. local time.
