
Georgia Riders Take Fresno State 14-2

LAS CRUCES, N.M. ---- The third-ranked Georgia Equestrian team, paced by a shutout win in the Western discipline, completed a weekend sweep by rolling past Fresno State 14-2 here Saturday afternoon.
Georgia defeated host New Mexico State 11-5 on Friday afternoon at the NMSU Equestrian Center. The Aggies finished the weekend by edging Fresno State by a 10-6 count.
The Georgia-Fresno matchup began Friday afternoon, when the two teams' faced off in Equitation over Fences and Western Horsemanship. Michelle Fulcher got the Bulldogs off to a winning start by taking a 1-point decision in her Horsemanship ride. Others who followed with points included Maria Salazar, Katelyn Van Allen and Anna Sasser.
The Georgia jumpers took three of four points on Friday. Kacy Jenkins, Michelle Morris and Carly Anthony all posted winning rides for the Bulldogs.
"It was a great weekend of competition; I'm really proud of the way we rebounded from last weekend (vs. Auburn)," said Georgia coach Meghan Boenig. "Special kudos to our Western team for winning 8-0 in our second meet this weekend. This is a great way to end our fall competitions and head into our break with some real momentum for the spring."
The Bulldogs' carried their success into the second half of their Fresno meet. Georgia reiners again swept the West Coast Bulldogs, led by an MVP effort from Kelly Truesdell, who won with a score of 70. Other reiners posting points included freshman McKenzie Lantz, as well as Becca Haaland and Diandra St. Hilaire.
Georgia also took three of four points in the Equitation on the Flat event, with another freshman, Olivia Dorey, winning MVP honors with a score of 81. Morris and Anthony also won points for the Bulldogs.
The weekend concluded the fall portion of Georgia's 2010-11 schedule. The Bulldogs will resume competition Feb. 5 at SEC rival South Carolina.
