Givens Opens Schooner With 3-under Loop

Athens, Ga. — Junior Sydney Givens opened her defense of the individual title at the Schooner Fall Classic with a 3-under 67 in Saturday's first round at the Belmar Golf Club. Givens led Georgia to a 5-over team tally that has the Bulldogs tied for 10th on the team leaderboard.

• Givens turned a 3-under, including birdies at No. 2, No. 3, No. 6 and No. 8. She moved to 5-under with additional birdies at No. 10 and No. 12 before giving those strokes back with bogeys at No. 14 and No. 18.
• Givens shot 9-under 201 en route to co-medalist honors at last year's Schooner Fall Classic and is now a combined 12-under over her last 72 holes at Belmar.
• The Bulldogs also counted a pair of 72s from Ashley Shaw and Karoline Tuttle and a 74 from Gabriella Albert on Saturday.
• Givens is tied for eighth in the individual field, while Shaw and Tuttle are tied for 50th and Albert is tied for 67th. In addition, Isabel Emanuels, who is competing as an individual, shot 73 and is tied for 59th; and Liva Krøl Andersen, carded a 76 and is tied for 81st.
• Weather is expected to affect Sunday's second round, with tee times already changed to a shotgun start and pushed up to 9:15 a.m. ET.
