Led Georgia with 14 double-digit outings in SEC play
ATHENS, Ga. — Kanon Catchings, who earned SEC Player of the Week honors after leading Georgia to late-season wins that locked up an NCAA Tournament bid, has signed to play for the Bulldogs again next season.
Catchings, who started all 32 games he played last season, was Georgia's second-leading scorer in SEC play at 13.7 points per game. After averaging 8.3 points during the non-conference schedule, he upped his scoring by 5.4 points to 13.7 ppg in SEC action. He was named SEC Player of the Week on March 9 after averaging 27.5 points in victories over No. 16 Alabama and at Mississippi State in the final two games of the regular season. Catchings poured in a career-high 32 points against the Crimson Tide and followed that with 23 points – equaling his career high before the Alabama game – against MSU.
On the season, Catchings averaged 11.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. He recorded 18 double-figure scoring outputs, with 14 of those coming in SEC play, and notched five 20-point performances. In addition to his 32 points against Alabama, Catchings also posted career-high efforts of nine rebounds versus Maryland Eastern Shore, five assists against Arkansas, three steals in three outings and 33 minutes versus Ole Miss last season.
Catchings, a 6-9, 220-pound rising junior from Brownsburg, Ind., has already etched his name in Georgia's single game and season leaders for 3-pointers. He knocked down seven 3s against Alabama, equaling the No. 6 mark all-time by a Bulldog, and connected on 68 3-pointers, the No. 16 effort on Georgia's season leaders ledger.
Georgia recorded 22 regular-season wins during the 2025-26 season, the most ever by the Bulldogs. Georgia also bettered its school records for scoring, putting up 2,951 points and averaging 89.4 points per game. The Bulldogs earned back-to-back bids to the NCAA Tournament for just the fourth time ever and recorded a third consecutive 20-win season for just the third time in 121 seasons of Georgia Basketball.
Catchings is the third Bulldog to sign to return to Georgia for the 2026-27 season. He joins:
• Marcus "Smurf" Millender, a 5-11, 175-pound rising senior guard from Houston Texas, who led the Bulldogs in assists and became the ninth player in school history with 100 assists and 50 3-pointers in the same season.
• Kareem Stagg, a 6-8, 230-pound rising sophomore forward from Chesapeake, Va., who emerged as a starter and key contributor during Georgia's late-season surge to earn an NCAA Tournament bid by averaging 6.9 points per game over the final 10 contests of the season.
