Freshman played key role in late-season surge to NCAA bid
ATHENS, Ga. — Kareem Stagg, a starter and key contributor during Georgia's late-season surge to earn an NCAA Tournament bid, has signed to play for the Bulldogs again next season.
Stagg played in all 33 games during his freshman season, including starting the last nine contests. He averaged 4.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in 12.9 minutes per game overall; however, his production increased considerably over the last 10 games. After averaging 3.8 points and 10.1 minutes of action per game in the first 23 outings, Stagg upped those tallies to 6.9 points in 19.3 minutes per game thereafter.
The 6-9, 230-pound forward from Chesapeake, Va., recorded double-digit minutes in two of Georgia's first 10 SEC games before scoring nine points in 16 minutes of action against No. 14 Florida. Stagg was inserted into the Bulldogs' starting five during the next contest, which began a string of five wins in seven games to complete the regular season. Three of those victories were over NCAA Tournament teams – Kentucky, Texas and Alabama.
Stagg posted season highs of 11 points against South Carolina, eight rebounds versus Long Island, three assists against Georgia Tech, two blocks in three games, two steals at Vanderbilt and 27 minutes at Oklahoma. He had five double-figure scoring outputs, with three of those coming in the last 10 games. Stagg played a key role in Georgia leading the nation in percentage of field goals that were dunks, finishing second on the team with 22 slams.
Georgia's 22 regular-season wins during the 2025-26 season represented the most in school history. The Bulldogs also bettered their previous bests for scoring – both total points (2,951) and average (89.4 ppg). Georgia secured back-to-back bids to the NCAA Tournament for just the fourth time ever. The Bulldogs also recorded their third consecutive 20-win seasons, just the third time in 121 seasons Georgia has done so.
Stagg is the second Bulldog to sign to return to Georgia for the 2026-27 season. On March 30, Georgia announced that guard Marcus "Smurf" Millender, who led the Bulldogs in assists and became the ninth player in school history with 100 assists and 50 3-pointers in the same season, signed with the Bulldogs,
