Eight Individuals, Two Relay Teams Qualify For Eugene On Day Three Of NCAA East Regional

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- The Georgia track & field team put together another successful day at the NCAA East Regional, posting 10 total qualifications as the men wrapped up their time in Jacksonville on Friday.

  • Kelsie Murrell-Ross punched her ticket to Nationals with a throw of 17.17 meters/56 feet, 4 inches to open her day in the shot put, finishing sixth to advance to her second NCAA Outdoor Championships.
  • Eddie Kurjak and Riyon Rankin both advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the long jump, clearing bars of 2.18m/7-1.75 and 2.15m/7-0.50, respectively, to tie for third and eighth place in Jacksonville. Kurjak's jump helped him set a new personal best.
  • The 4x100-meter relay team of Micah Larry, Brody Buffington, Jehlani Gordon, and Will Floyd clocked a time of 39.14 to place 10th and advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the event.
  • Gordon also advanced to Nationals in the 100-meter dash, clocking a season-best time of 10.07 to place seventh in the quarterfinals in Jacksonville.
  • A trio of Bulldogs all advanced to Nationals in the 400m. Shemar Chambers won his heat with a time of 45.39, finishing eighth overall to lead Georgia in the event while Ervin Pearson finished just behind in ninth with a time of 45.43. Will Floyd earned the 12th and final qualifying spot with a time of 45.68.
  • Brody Buffington earned a spot in Eugene in the 200m with his time of 20.32, which was good for 12thplace.
  • Chambers, Floyd, Xai Ricks, and Pearson placed fifth in the 4x400m relay to cap off the day with another qualification for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

The Bulldog women will compete in the fourth and final day of the NCAA East Regional on Saturday as a final group of competitors look to punch their tickets to Oregon. Danah Nembhard and Skylynn Townsend will compete in the high jump beginning at 2:30 p.m. to open the field events for Georgia. At the same time, Elena Kulichenko will look to advance in the high jump. On the track, the women's 4x100m relay team will kick off the running events at 5 p.m.
