Three Bulldogs Advance to Eugene On First Day Of NCAA East Regional

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Moustafa Alsherif, Jayden Keys, and Micah Larry all punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the field events while the Bulldogs posted eight advancing times on the track on a rainy opening day at the NCAA East Regional on Wednesday.

The Georgia women will open competition at the NCAA East Regional on Thursday morning while the men will compete in the field events postponed due to Wednesday's weather. Stephanie Ratcliffe will kick off the day's competition in the women's hammer throw at 8 a.m. with Nikolai van Huyssteen and Alon Rogow to follow in the men's pole vault at 9:30 a.m. Sanaa Frederick, Kaila Jackson, Karsen Phillips, and Reign Redmond will kick off the action on the track in the women's 100m at 3:30 p.m.

- Alsherif became the first Bulldog to punch his ticket to Eugene, recording a mark of 75.02 meters/246 feet, 1 inch on his first attempt to clinch his spot in Eugene.
- The long jump duo of Keys and Larry both qualified for Nationals with their performances in Jacksonville as Keys leaped 7.72m/25-4 to finish third while Larry jumped 7.55m/24-9.25 to place eighth.
- A trio of Bulldogs advanced to the 100-meter dash quarterfinals after posting times in the top 24 in Wednesday's first round. Jehlani Gordon led the way with his sixth-place time of 10.23, winning his heat as Brody Buffington finished just behind with a time of 10.35 (11th overall). Larry clocked a 10.40 to place 21st overall and advance in his second event of the evening.
- All four Bulldogs who entered the 400m first round advanced to the quarterfinals, which will be contested on Friday evening. Shemar Chambers moved to fifth in program history with his personal-best time of 45.29, posting the fastest time in the first round. Will Floyd followed close behind in third place with a time of 45.54 while Ervin Pearson took seventh place with a 45.77. Xai Ricks rounded out the field for the Bulldogs with a time of 46.08, which was good for 17th place.
- Buffington also advanced in the 200m on Wednesday, clocking the No. 10 time in the event (20.76) to secure his spot in Friday's quarterfinal.
