Georgia Arrives In Auburn For Saturday’s Tiger Track Classic

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia track & field program is set for its penultimate weekend of regular season competition as it prepares for the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., on Saturday. The one-day meet will take place at Hutsell-Rosen Track and marks the first of back-to-back meet weekends to conclude Georgia's outdoor regular season as the Bulldogs make their final preparations for the SEC Outdoor Championships.
Who's The Competition?: The Tiger Track Classic will feature five teams, including three from the Southeastern Conference. The Bulldogs will join Auburn, Alabama, Georgia Tech, and Harvard to compete at Hutsell-Rosen Track on Saturday.
When Do The Bulldogs Start?: Georgia's throwers will open the day for the Bulldogs at 11:30 a.m. ET, with Stephanie Ratcliffe competing in the hammer throw while Lianna Davidson, Erin McMeniman, and Ella Rush take part in the javelin. On the track, the Georgia women will compete in the 4x100-meter relay at 3:30 p.m. to open the running events.

Coach Caryl's Comments: "We are down to our final two regular season opportunities to prepare for the postseason," Georgia head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert said. "I am encouraged with the development we have shown so far, and we will keep honing in on our goals so 2025 ends like we want it to. This is a shorter trip for our team and one I believe will reap benefits for the coming SEC and NCAA meets. GO DAWGS!"
What Bulldogs Are Competing?: A group of 44 Bulldogs made the trip to Auburn to compete in Saturday's meet. The Georgia women competing in Auburn include Sydney Augmon, T'oni Birden, Bella Brick, Aaliyah Butler, Lianna Davidson, Kayla Dickerson, Kieley Gayle, Sydney Harris, Elena Kulichenko, Katherine Law, Erin McMeniman, Kelsie Murrell-Ross, Danah Nembhard, Gracie O'Neal, Dejanea Oakley, Nina Ouellette, Karsen Phillips, Stephanie Ratcliffe, Reign Redmond, Ella Rush and Haley Tate.
The Bulldog men will be represented by Moustafa Alsherif, Brody Buffington, Shemar Chambers, London Costen, Jordan Fick, Will Floyd, Jehlani Gordon, Ian Hodge, Chance Jones, Jayden Keys, Alex Kolesnikoff, Eddie Kurjak, Micah Larry, Joseph Minecci, Luther Mogelvang, Ervin Pearson, Riyon Rankin, Xai Ricks, Alon Rogow, Zack Truitt, Maximus Tucker, Nikolai van Huyssteen, and Zavien Wolfe.
LAST WEEK'S FLASHBACK – Wake Forest Invitational/Tom Jones Memorial Invitational (April 17-19): Georgia split squads for the final time this season last weekend as the Distance Dawgs competed at the Wake Forest Invitational while the remainder of the Bulldogs headed to Gainesville, Fla., for the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational. Aaliyah Butler broke her own school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.44, picking up one of six Bulldog wins in Gainesville. Lianna Davidson (javelin), Moustafa Alsherif (javelin), Riyon Rankin (high jump), Will Floyd (400m), and Elena Kulichenko (high jump) also earned wins in their respective events as the Bulldogs made 10 improvements to the program's outdoor all-time top-10 list. Conner Rutherford led the way for the Bulldogs at Wake Forest, posting a 14:08.37 in the 5,000m to come within a second of becoming the No. 10 performer in program history in the event.
National and Conference Honors Stack Up: The Bulldogs came away from their first meet weekend of the season with three SEC weekly honors. Lianna Davidson was named SEC Women's Field Athlete of the week following her javelin performance at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, where she recorded a school-record mark of 62.59 meters/205 feet, 4 inches to win the event with the No. 2 mark in NCAA history. Additionally, Davidson was named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week for her performance in Atlanta.
Michelle Smith earned SEC Women's Freshman of the Week honors with her winning time of 55.98 in the 400-meter hurdles at the Black and Gold Invitational, making her the No. 3 performer in program history. Fellow freshman Ervin Pearson was named SEC Men's Co-Runner of the Week after clocking a nation-leading time of 45.42 to win the 400m at the Black and Gold Invitational. He moved into sixth in Georgia history outdoors with his performance.
The Bulldogs took home another three SEC honors after the Florida Relays on April 4-5. Rotundo was named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week and SEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week after becoming the No. 2 all-time collegiate javelin thrower with her school-record mark of 64.17m/210-6. Combined with Davidson's National Athlete of the Week award two weeks prior, it was just the second time in NCAA Division I award history that a program had different student-athletes earn the award in consecutive weeks.
Fellow javelin thrower Moustafa Alsherif earned SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors with his runner-up performance in Gainesville, Fla. He recorded a fifth-attempt mark of 79.72m/261-6 to record the top collegiate finish at Florida in his Bulldog debut. Alsherif ranks third in program history in the event.
Smith earned her second SEC Women's Freshman of the Week award with her school-record and nation-leading time of 54.56 in the 400-meter hurdles. Georgia's 29-year-old school record fell with her performance as the Frederiksted, St. Croix, native won the event by over a second.
Alsherif earned his second SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week award following his victory in the javelin at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on April 18. The senior recorded a top mark of 80.52m/264-2 to become the No. 25 all-time collegiate performer while taking the NCAA lead in the event. The performance improved Alsherif's mark as the No. 3 performer in school history.
Where This Season Will Take The Dogs: The Bulldogs added the LSU Invitational to the schedule, providing an extra opportunity for preparation for the SEC Outdoor Championships. The meet will take place on May 3 and serves as Georgia's outdoor regular season finale.
The SEC Outdoor Championships will kick off postseason competition for the Bulldogs on May 15-17 in Lexington, Ky. Georgia will then compete at the NCAA East Regionals in Jacksonville, Fla., on May 28-31 before wrapping up the outdoor season at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 11-14.
