Butler Breaks Own 400m School Record At Tom Jones Memorial Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- Aaliyah Butler obliterated her own school record in the 400-meter dash to become the No. 5 performer in NCAA history in the event as Georgia wrapped up its weekend at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on Saturday.

  • Butler clocked a time of 49.44 in the 400m invite, beating her own school record by .35 seconds to win the event in Gainesville. She defeated her next closest competitor by .81 seconds while cementing herself as the No. 5 performer in NCAA history. Dejanea Oakley finished third in the 400m invite to shoot to third in Georgia history in the event with her time of 50.35.
  • Will Floyd helped the Bulldogs complete the 400m sweep on Saturday, posting a time of 44.93 to win the 400m invite while becoming the No. 3 performer in the Georgia record books. Shemar Chambers finished fourth in the event while matching teammate Ervin Pearson's No. 7 time in school history (45.42), and freshman Xai Ricks clocked a 45.63 to place sixth (No. 10 in school history).
  • Elena Kulichenko picked up Georgia's third win of the day with her victory in the high jump invite, clearing 1.83 meters/6 feet, 0 inches in her outdoor season debut.
  • Stephanie Ratcliffe improved her own No. 2 mark in program history with her runner-up finish in the hammer throw invite. She posted a top mark of 69.34m/227-6 on her fifth attempt to record the top throw of the day by a collegian.
  • The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Kaila Jackson, Reign Redmond, Karsen Phillips, and Dejanea Oakley posted the No. 5 time in program history (43.29) to record the top collegiate finish in Gainesville while placing third overall.
  • Freshman Jayden Keys improved his position on the Georgia all-time top-10 list in the 110-meter hurdles, equaling his own No. 6 time (13.73) in the prelims before improving to No. 4 in the finals with his time of 13.67. Keys finished seventh in the event finals after placing fifth in the prelims.

Up Next
Georgia will head to Auburn, Ala., for the Tiger Track Classic on Saturday, April 26. The meet will be held at Hutsell-Rosen Track and marks Georgia's final competition day in April.
