Trio Of Bulldogs Earn Victories To Open Tom Jones Memorial Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- Lianna Davidson and Moustafa Alsherif completed a Georgia sweep of the javelin while Riyon Rankin took home a win in the men's high jump invite to highlight the Bulldogs' first day at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on Friday.

  • Davidson earned her second win of the season in the javelin, recording a throw of 59.12 meters/193 feet, 11 inches to earn the victory in Gainesville. Erin McMeniman joined her in the top five with a mark of 49.26m/161-7 to finish fifth.
  • Alsherif improved his No. 3 mark in program history with a throw of 80.52m/264-2 to win the javelin for the first time in a Bulldog uniform. Competing in just his second meet as a Bulldog, he has finished in the top two while emerging as the top collegiate finisher in both events.
  • Rankin cleared 2.18m/7-1.75 on his first attempt to win the high jump invite in Gainesville. The win marked his first of the 2025 outdoor season.
  • Sophomore sprinter Brody Buffington posted a 20.33 to finish third in the 200-meter dash invite. Buffington moved to sixth in program history in the event outdoors with his performance.
  • Conner Rutherford highlighted Georgia's final day of action at the Wake Forest Invitational, clocking a 14:08.37 in the 5,000m to finish 28th. Rutherford was just one second shy of becoming the No. 10 performer in program history in the event.

The Bulldogs will continue competition at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on Saturday morning. Brody Buffington will compete in Georgia's first running event at 9:45 a.m. with his entry in the open 100m while T'oni Birden and Danah Nembhard are set for the open triple jump at 11:30 a.m. to kick off the field events for the Bulldogs.
