Bray Qualifies for NCAA Championships on 1-meter

AUBURN, Ala. – Sophomore Matthew Bray punched his ticket to Nationals on 1-meter with a seventh-place finish at the 2025 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships Sunday afternoon at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
 
Bray finished seventh on 1-meter with a score of 675.25, earning his first career berth at the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships. He will compete in the event on Thursday, March 27 in Federal Way, Washington. Bray was consistent throughout the day, peaking with a 70.50 on his fourth dive in finals. With a top-12 finish tomorrow on 3-meter, the Fairfax, Virginia native will add a second event to his NCAA program.
 
Junior Renato Calderaro narrowly missed qualifying for NCAAs, finishing eighth with a score of 672.75. Calderaro routinely scored in the 50s during his event, putting himself in position to reach NCAAs on 1-meter with a top-eight finish on 3-meter. Senior Rhett Hopkins also reached the finals, finishing 18th overall with a mark of 580.35. Hopkins' top score of 62.40 came on his final dive of prelims.
 
In the prelims session, Calderaro placed fourth with a score of 352.25, followed by Bray in seventh at 341.70 and Hopkins in 11th at 324.00. Freshman Bo Bridges turned in a terrific performance, finishing 21st with a score of 293.75.
 
The NCAA Zone B Diving Championships continue Monday with the women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter. Junior Hannah Stumpf, sophomore Michelle Cummo, and freshman Nyla Thompson will compete on 1-meter, beginning at noon EDT, followed by Bray, Calderaro, and Hopkins on 3-meter at 4:45 p.m. The top nine women's finishers and top eight men's finishers will qualify for NCAAs.
