FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Georgia women's volleyball team earned a sweep of NC State Thursday afternoon at Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville, Arkansas (25-21, 25-22, 25-21).

This is Georgia's sixth sweep of the season as the Bulldogs climb to 9-1 in 2022.

Junior Sophie Fischer led Georgia's offense with 12 kills against the Wolfpack with a .450 hitting percentage. She also led Georgia's efforts at the net with five blocks.

Senior Meghan Froemming picked up a season-high 11 kills, hitting .667 in the match. Freshman Estelle Haugen laid down a season best nine kills.

Sophomore libero Bailey Cox recorded 12 digs for the Dogs.

The first set started neck-and-neck as the set was tied five times. Tied at 12, Georgia used five-straight points to go ahead 17-12, exhausting both Wolfpack timeouts in the opening set. NC State stormed back to cut the lead to one, 17-16, but Georgia never gave up the lead and held on to take the opening stanza 25-21. Haugen and Fischer paced the Bulldogs with six and four kills, respectively, each contributing two blocks.

Georgia used a 6-0 run early in the second set to go ahead 8-2. The Wolfpack chipped away at the lead to knot the set at 13. Tied again at 16, Georgia won four of the next five rallies to regain a three-point lead, 20-17, but NC State responded with three straight to retie it at 20, forcing Georgia's final timeout. The Bulldogs capitalized on a couple Wolfpack errors to assist in closing out the set 25-22 and going ahead 2-0 in the match.

NC State used unforced Georgia errors to go ahead 4-0 in the third. Georgia slowly cut into the lead, working it to a two-point set, 14-12. Georgia stayed within striking distance and used a 4-1 run to erase the deficit and take a 20-19 lead. Georgia' momentum carried the Bulldogs to win five of the next seven en route to a sweep with the 25-21 set three win. Fischer totaled six kills in the final set for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs return home to host No. 7 Georgia Tech at Stegeman Coliseum Saturday. First serve between the Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets is set for 7 p.m. Admission is free. The first 500 fans will receive a red t-shirt and the first 250 UGA students will receive free food.

The University of Georgia held fast at No. 16 in U.S. News & World Report's 2023 ranking of the best public universities in the nation, marking the seventh consecutive year that UGA has placed in the top 20.  Georgia is one of only two SEC institutions to rank among the top 20.

"This outstanding news is another clear sign that the University of Georgia is solidifying its position among the very best public research universities in America," said President Jere W. Morehead. "The consistency of our national ranking is a testament to the commitment of our talented faculty, staff and students; the generosity and support of our loyal alumni and friends; and the effectiveness of our vision and strategy to reach new heights of academic excellence."
