16-0 Win Over Minnesota Crookston Finishes Weekend Sweep for Georgia
February 19, 2022 | Equestrian
BROOKINGS, South Dakota -- In a dominant win, the No. 4 University of Georgia equestrian team defeated Minnesota Crookston, 16-0 on Sunday afternoon. Today's shutout win marks the first since the 2010-11 season when the Bulldogs defeated Tennessee Martin, 14-0.
"Great adjustments today," said head coach Meghan Boenig. "We were smarter about how we were riding horses and were cleaner through everything that we did. That was our big focus, being present in the moment and riding the horses we had. It's an incredible feeling with the sweep and all our MOPs. There were a lot of dominant rides and the adjustments made from yesterday to today were great. That doesn't mean we don't have work to do when we get home, hosting an SEC school and turning around to another one, so we're going to have a busy couple of weeks."
Georgia swept MOP honors this weekend as well, winning eight. Against SDSU, Jordan Toering was named MOP in Flat and Fences for her performances. In Western, Jillian Stopperich won for her Horsemanship ride while Jax Bound won in Reining.
Against Minnesota Crookston, Rachel McMullen was named MOP in Fences and Nora Andrews won the honor in Flat. In Western, Gracie Himes won in Horsemanship and Lindsay Guynn won in Reining.
The first half of competition began on Friday afternoon with Horsemanship. All four of Georgia's riders won their point, starting with Leah Anderson getting the Bulldogs on the board first, 68.5-51. Kendall Gill defeated her opponent, 69-67. Gracie Himes won, 69.5-65.5 while Jillian Stopperich took home the final Horsemanship point 65.5-63.
Fences opened the Jumping Seat competition with Rachel McMullen winning the first point, 76-70. Jordan Toering won, 74-40, with Catalina Peralta following with a 68-40 win. Jennifer Staniloff earned the final Fences point, 75-60.
Georgia ended the first round of competition ahead, 8-0.
On Saturday morning, the meet resumed with Reining. Staying dominant, Georgia riders swept the Reining competition. Isabella Hehr earned the first point with a winning ride of 66.5-64.5, Lindsay Guynn won over Beatrice Streifel, 69.5-66. Caitlin Lyons and Jax Bound won the last two points, respectively.
Georgia's Jumping Seat squad finished out the meet by winning all four points in Flat. Nora Andrews picked up the first point, 77-59.5 while Ceci Bresch won the second, 73.5-67.5. Jessica Guginsky won 73.5-59.5 and Hayley Mairano finished out the meet by defeating her Golden Eagle opponent, 67-65.5.
