Georgia Defeats SDSU, 11-8

BROOKINGS, South Dakota --- In its third meeting against SDSU, the No. 4 University of Georgia equestrian team defeated the Jackrabbits 11-8 at DeHaan Equestrian Center. The Bulldogs now lead the series, 2-1.
"Glad to be out here and competing," said head coach Meghan Boening. "I'm grateful for every time we have an opportunity to go out there and test our skills. In today's meet, we had a lot of close calls, things learned as far as protecting areas and making sure we're staying out of penalties or errors. In the end, we're grateful to come out of here with the victory."
MOP honors for both meets will be announced on Saturday following the conclusion of competition between Georgia and Minnesota Crookston.
Fences opened the competition between Georgia (4-3, 1-3 SEC) and SDSU (2-6, 2-4 ECAC). The Bulldogs won three-of-the-five points. Rachel McMullen put Georgia on the board first, winning 79-74. Emma Reichow fell to her Jackrabbit opponent, 75-73. Catalina Peralta and Jordan Toering won the next two points. The last Fences point when to Kate Koehl of SDSU after defeating Hayley Mairano, 74-71.
Western would follow as the second event, with the Bulldogs once again winning the majority. Jillian Stopperich won, 72-67.5, over Shelby Cochran. Gracie Himes fell, 69-63.5, after a re-ride. Sara Lewis and Leah Anderson took the next two points for Georgia, while Kendall Gill fell in the final Horsemanship ride, 73-0.
The Bulldogs led the Jackrabbits 6-4 going into halftime.
The second half started with Flat. Georgia went on to win three points, with one going to SDSU and the other a tie. Toering picked up the first flat point with a 79.5-68.5 win while Ceci Bresch tied her opponent with a 68. Nora Andrews and Mairano took the next two, and Sophia Pilla fell, 64.5-50.
The Jackrabbits made a comeback in the final event, winning three points. Georgia's two points were enough to take home the win. Jax Bound's ride clinched the meet for the Bulldogs, defeating Amelia Nelson, 70-68.5. Caitlin Lyons, Isabella Hehr, and Courtney Blumer all fell. Lindsay Guynn won the last point for Georgia, 68.5-64.5, over Cassandra Townsend.
The Georgia and Minnesota Crookston meet began today with Horsemanship and Fences. The Bulldogs lead the Golden Eagles 8-0. A full recap with final results will be made available tomorrow.
