Georgia Wins Fifth-Straight Match with Sweep of Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Georgia women's volleyball team won its fifth-straight SEC match with a straight sets sweep of the Missouri Tigers Saturday afternoon at Hearnes Center (25-11, 25-23, 25-20). Â

The Bulldogs climb to 17-5 on the season an 8-3 in SEC action.Â

For the second match of the series, senior Kacie Evans led the Bulldogs with 18 kills, hitting .500 in the match. 12 of her kills came in the second set alone. She tallied seven digs with a pair of blocks.Â

Junior Sophie Fischer tallied 11 kills on Saturday at Hearnes. Fischer added six blocks in the match.Â

Setter Clara Brower led the team with eight digs, handing out 17 assists.Â

 A 6-1 run for the Bulldogs opened an 8-4 lead early in the opening set. Georgia lengthened the lead to five with its third block of the set, prompting a Missouri (8-13, 1-10) timeout at 11-6. Georgia went on an 11-1 scoring run to break the lead wide open to 20-7 in the opening stanza. The Bulldogs held on to win the opening set 25-11, hitting .474 with three aces and five blocks to open the match. Fischer was responsible for six kills and three blocks alone.Â

Georgia took its momentum from the first set into the second, opening the frame on a 5-0 run. With Georgia ahead seven, Missouri went on an 8-1 run to tie the set at 13 and force a Georgia timeout. Georgia held on to keep the lead, working to bring it back to four at 18-14 on Evans' 11th kill of the second set, prompting Missouri's final timeout. The Tigers narrowed Georgia's lead to one down the stretch, 24-23, but Georgia held on to take the set 25-23. Evans tallied 12 kills in the second set and hit .737.Â

Like the opening set, a 6-1 lead put the Bulldogs in front and forced a Missouri timeout early, 10-6. The Tigers responded with four-straight points after the break to re-tie it. Georgia was able to reopen a 15-11 lead, holding on the rest of the set. Back-to-back aces from Amber Stivrins secured the set and the match for the Dogs, 25-20.Â

Georgia returns to Stegeman Coliseum to host No. 20 Kentucky Wednesday at 7 p.m. then Arkansas Sunday at 4 p.m. The matchup against the Razorbacks will air nationally on SEC Network.Â
