Bulldogs Fall in Three Sets to No. 7 Kentucky
November 10, 2021 | Volleyball
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Georgia women's volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to No. 7 Kentucky Wednesday evening at Memorial Coliseum (10-25, 14-25, 18-25).Â
Â
Junior outside hitter Kacie Evans led the offensive attack for Georgia (8-15, 4-8), registering nine kills and picked up eight digs in the match. Sage Naves, Phoebe Awoleye, and Amber Stivrins all recorded six kills.Â
Â
Freshman libero Bailey Cox led the team with 11 digs Wednesday evening. Setters Dalaney Hans and Clara Brower each added seven digs.
Â
The Wildcats (18-4, 11-1) forced an early timeout from the Bulldogs bench after jumping out to a quick 10-3 lead in the opening stanza. Kentucky rolled to a set one victory, 25-10, over the Bulldogs. Georgia was led offensively by three kills from Awoleye.Â
Â
Georgia closed an early 4-1 Kentucky advantage to a one-point set very early, 4-3. The Wildcats widened their lead back to 10-5, prompting a UGA timeout. A kill from Naves following Georgia's second break made it a five-point set again, but that was the closest Georgia got to UK in the frame as the Wildcats took the frame 25-14.Â
Â
With Kentucky ahead 10-4, a string of five-straight kills from Evans and a put-back by Rivera cut the Wildcat lead to one, 11-10, in the third set. Kills from Awoleye and Stivrins once again cut the lead to two, 14-12, but Kentucky never relinquished the lead as Kentucky wrapped the sweep with a 25-18 set three victory. Â
Â
Georgia returns home to host Missouri in a two-match series this weekend at Stegeman Coliseum. The Bulldogs and Tigers open the series Saturday at 2 p.m. Sunday's noon match will air nationally on ESPNU.Â
