Georgia Advances to Team Semifinals at NCEA Championships

WACO, Texas – The sixth-ranked University of Georgia equestrian team advanced to the semifinals of the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) National Championship with a 10-6 win over No. 3 Baylor at the Extraco Event Center on Thursday.
"Again, a great morning—a lot of fight in this team and a lot of tough rides and perseverance," head coach Meghan Boenig said. "We talked this morning about being courageous and I think that is something that they showed well today and something we will have to do against Texas A&M this evening."
In the 2018-19 regular season, Baylor beat Georgia on the Bears' home arena, 11-8. The Bulldogs battled back in the quarterfinal round of the championship to secure a spot in the semifinals.
Georgia tied Baylor, 2-2, in Equitation on the Flat. Junior Ali Tritschler earned the first point of the day defeating her opponent by a 28-point margin, 225-197. Junior Maddy Darst topped her opponent, 238-224, claiming the Bulldogs' second point.
The Bulldogs' Horsemanship squad fell to the Bears, 3-1. Senior Graysen Stroud highlighted the event for Georgia earning a score of 221 for her ride. Baylor responded securing the next three points for the Bears.
Headed into the half, Baylor held the lead over Georgia, 5-3.
Georgia junior Hayley Mairano highlighted the afternoon after securing the Bulldogs' advancement with a strong score of 250 for her Equitation Over Fences performance. Mairano defeated her opponent by a 37-point margin, 250-213.
Reining started back competition with the Bulldogs sweeping the Bears, 4-0. Sophomore Jordan Carpenter entered the arena with strong ride that produced a point for Georgia, 210.5-161. Freshman Courtney Blumer earned her first national championship point riding to a victory of 207 to 186 over her opponent. Junior Annabeth Payne had the final Georgia ride of the day scoring a 205 to best Baylor's Sydney Scheckel's 181.5. After Baylor's last ride, Stroud's score of 210.5 moved the Bulldogs onto the next round of team competition.
Next, the Bulldogs will take on the Aggies of the Texas A&M University later this evening for the semifinal round of team competition. The winner will advance to the championship round on Saturday, April 20.
