Georgia to Host Emory on Senior Day

February 01, 2019 | Swimming & Diving

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia swimming and diving teams will entertain Emory for Senior Day on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

The Lady Bulldogs are 2-3 and stand 12th nationally, while the Bulldogs are also 12th with a mark of 2-3. The No. 2 Division III Emory women are 3-2 and the No. 3 Division III Eagles are 2-3.

"Emory should be a good last tune-up before SECs," senior swimmer James Guest said. "I think everyone is really excited. We're coming down to the end of the season, and I think it's going to be a lot of fun."

Following offseason hip surgery, senior diver Allison Greene will be competing on the springboards for the first time this year on Saturday. She hopes to post qualifying scores going into SECs and Zones.

"I'm definitely excited, but it is a mix of emotions," Greene said. "It's been a great four years and I've learned a lot. I've developed as a person and as an athlete. I think I'm just excited to have one more meet here and represent the University of Georgia one more time."

Seniors Guest, Greene, Blake Atmore, Alex BeMiller, Aidan Burns, Caitlin Casazza, and Colin Monaghan will be recognized in a pre-meet ceremony.

"This is a quality group of seniors," said Jack Bauerle, Georgia's Tom Cousins Swimming and Diving Head Coach. "They have been ambassadors academically, athletically, and in the community. They have been tremendous leaders by example. This will be a bittersweet day because of the emotions attached to Senior Day, but it's an appropriate way for us to thank them for all they have done."

Currently six Bulldogs hold 10 top-10 places in the country. On the women's side, Veronica Burchill comes in at No. 7 in both the 100 freestyle (47.37) and the 100 butterfly (51.35). Courtney Harnish claims two spots as well, coming in at second in the 500 and sixth in the 1,000 freestyle stopping the clock at 4:36.06 and 9:41.46 respectively. Dakota Luther rounds out the women with a No. 6 spot in the 200 butterfly (1:53.55).

For the men, Greg Reed comes in third in the 1,000 (8:55.60) and ninth in the 1,650 freestyle (14:50.86). Camden Murphy holds two spots as well, coming in third in the 100 (45.47) and fourth in the 200 butterfly (1:41.51). Javier Acevedo claims No. 5 in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:39.88.

This will be the final regular-season meet for Georgia before hosting the SEC Championships at Gabrielsen Natatorium Feb. 19-23.
