Bulldogs Host Successful Alumni & Red and Black Scrimmage

ATHENS, Ga. – The Georgia volleyball team welcomed 21 alumni to Stegeman Coliseum Saturday for the 2018 Alumni & Red and Black Scrimmage.

The 2018 team squared off against the alumni in one set with this year's team taking the victory, 25-14.

The event concluded with a three-set scrimmage between this season's team. The rosters were switched up each set. Senior Katie Houser combined for 13 kills while freshman opposite hitter Mallory Hernandez laid down 10 kills on the afternoon. Redshirt-freshman Claire Rothenberger, the Red Team libero, picked up 18 digs. Hernandez and fellow freshman Sage Naves each had four blocks.

While all three sets were close, the Red Team came out on top in straight sets, 25-22, 25-21, 25-22.

Georgia will officially open the 2018 season Friday, Aug. 24, against Coastal Carolina as part of the Benson Hospitality Invitational at Stegeman Coliseum. Day two of the tournament will feature Georgia hosting Furman and Illinois State on Saturday.
