Athens, Ga. – The No. 17 Georgia GymDogs posted a season high score of 197.525 to defeat No. 14 Boise State's score of 196.625 on Saturday in front of a sold-out crowd at Stegeman Coliseum on Senior Day.
The GymDogs (4-8, 3-4 SEC) posted season-high scores on vault (49.350), bars (49.425), and floor (49.475) and won event titles on all events. Lauren Johnson earned top honors on vault, Sydney Snead took the bars title, and Vivi Babalis had the high score on beam. Rachel Dickson earned the crown on floor and in the all-around.
"It was a season-high of 197.525, absolutely amazing, but I attribute that definitely to the week we've had," head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. "It's senior week. They really paid attention to everything they've done in gymnastics leading up to this and we told them [the seniors] at the beginning of this week that they really had to set it up and set the tone for the rest of this season. I can see the fight within them. They've given everything they've had this week and it's absolutely amazing to see it come full circle for them this whole season. They've had the gymnastics in them and I'm just extremely proud that they have never given up when there have been ups and downs, highs and lows, and injuries. This team is here to stay and they're going to keep moving from this point on."
Freshman Marissa Oakley started the competition on vault scoring a career high 9.825. Senior Jasmine Arnold made her vault debut earning a 9.850 to cap-off her senior season at Stegeman. Senior success continued with Lauren Johnson earning the first 9.9 or better of the meet and marking a season-high score with a 9.925. Sophomore Rachel Dickson tied her season-high (9.85) and junior Sydney Snead earned a season-high 9.9 to close out the event. All scores on vault marked or matched season-highs for the gymnasts, contributing to a 49.35 overall.
Season-high scores continued to be met on bars with junior Natalie Vaculik (9.875) tying her individual high. Snead set a career-high and Dickson hit a season-high, posting scores of 9.95 and 9.925, respectively. An overall score of 49.425 was inked in the second rotation.
Heading into the third rotation, Senior Vivi Babalis posted a 9.9 on beam for the third time this season. Snead, Oakley, and Sabrina Vega each notched a 9.850 and Dickson contributed a 9.825 to the 49.275 total.
Dickson led the GymDogs on floor, posting a 9.95. Babalis capped her final performance in Stegeman with a 9.9. Vega earned a 9.925, while Arnold contributed a 9.850. In her debut on floor, Jordyn Pedersen notched a 9.850 to wrap up the meet for the GymDogs.
The GymDogs will conclude the regular season at Utah on Friday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m.
