Georgia Posts Highest Road Score at Utah
March 17, 2018 | Gymnastics
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah --- The No. 20 Georgia gymnastics team posted its highest road score of the season in a loss at No. 4 Utah with a final score of 198.150-196.350 on Friday night inside the Huntsman Center.
"This was our highest road score as a team and on vault, so that is definitely a positive from tonight," head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. "Vault is a weaker event for us and we have been working hard in the gym on that. We have to keep the momentum going as we head into SECs and postseason."
The GymDogs began competition on bars, swinging to a 49.150. Freshman Emily Schild led Georgia in the event, posting a 9.875. Senior Sydney Snead earned a 9.850, while freshman Marissa Oakley and sophomore Rachel Dickson both contributed scores of 9.825.
Georgia showed improvement on vault, posting a new high score outside of Stegeman Coliseum with a 49.275. Snead earned the event title after posting a season-high score of 9.925 in the anchor position. Senior Lauren Johnson posted a 9.90 after Dickson earned her season-high of 9.875. Oakley and senior Jasmine Arnold contributed scores of 9.800 and 9.775, respectively.
Sophomore Sabrina Vega led the GymDogs on floor, ending the event with a 9.9, contributing to the team total of 48.800.
In the final rotation of the night, Georgia posted a 49.125 on beam. Oakley paced Georgia with a 9.9, while senior Vivi Babalis and Snead contributed a 9.875 and 9.850, respectively. In her debut on beam, Schild earned a 9.8.
"This was Emily (Schild)'s first time on beam," Kupets Carter continued. "She had two events at an away competition. The environment was crazy and there was so much energy on floor for (Utah). She did a fantastic job. There is so much to come for her on balance beam. I was so proud of the effort she put in."
Georgia heads to St. Louis, Missouri this week for the SEC Championship on March 24.
