Opening Tip - Notes To Know Heading Into Tuesday

  • Georgia has stormed out to a 3-0 record to start the 2017-18 season and will look for its fourth-straight win Tuesday against Western Carolina at 7 p.m. ET inside Stegeman Coliseum.
  • The Lady Bulldogs have picked up back-to-back road victories against two teams -- Virginia and Mercer -- that won 20 or more games last season. Virginia had three starters back from last year's squad, while Mercer had all five starters return from a team that went 25-7 and won the Southern Conference Championship last year.
  • Georgia's early season success is due in large part to freshman guard Que Morrison, who leads the team in scoring through the first three contests with 13.3 ppg. She has hit 50-percent (16-of-32) of her shots and is tied for the team lead with six steals. Georgia's newcomers in the backcourt -- Morrison, Taja Cole and Gabby Connally -- have combined for 32 assists and are shooting a collectively 49 percent from the field.
  • Not to be outdone, Georgia's veteran players Caliya Robinson and Mackenzie Engram have continued their strong finish from last season. Robinson has averaged a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds over the last 13 contests, while Engram has reached double figures in scoring in six of her last seven games.
  • Robinson, a preseason All-SEC honoree and member of the Katrina McClain Award watch list, has moved into ninth place on Georgia's all-time career blocked shots records. She currently has 124 blocks in 60 total games played.

Unselfish Lady Bulldogs

Even though it is still early in the season, Georgia ranks among the SEC's best in assists (2nd with 21.3 per game) and assist-to-turnover ratio (4th at 1.4). The Lady Bulldogs' guard play has been aided by transfer point guard Taja Cole, whose 6.7 dimes per game ranks second in the league behind only Morgan William from Mississippi State. And it's not just the guards who are unselfish ... forward Caliya Robinson actually has 12 assists this year -- a total that ranks in the top-15 of the conference.

Freshmen Clutch At Crucial Time

In the final 10 seconds of the game at Virginia it was two freshmen guards that stepped to the line and sealed the game for the Lady Bulldogs. Gabby Connally was fouled with just nine seconds remaining and sunk two-straight to put her team up 62-58. After the Cavaliers hit a long 3-pointer on the next possession, Que Morrison knocked in two-straight free-throws to give her team a 64-61 lead with five seconds remaining.

Morrison's Debut Among Best for Georgia Freshmen

Morrison's 19-point effort in the season-opener against Wofford puts her name among a prestigious group of Lady Bulldog freshmen. Morrison's total is the most for a Georgia rookie in a season-opening game since Tasha Humphrey scored 25 versus Furman at the beginning of the 2004-05 season.

Robinson Moves Into Top-10 of Blocked Shots List

Georgia junior forward Caliya Robinson has moved into the top-10 of the Lady Bulldogs' career blocked shots leaders. In just 60 games, Robinson has 124 blocks and needs 17 to move into a tie with Porsha Phillips, who had 141 in her career. Perhaps even more impressive is that Robinson has done this in just 60 career games. It took Tasha Humphrey (who is currently in10th place with 119) 126 games, while Anne-Marie Armstrong (in ninth place) recorded 122 blocks in 133 contests.

A Closer Look At Robinson's Last 13 games

Robinson finished the 2016-17 season on a high note with nine double figure scoring games in the last 10 contests. During that span, she almost tripled her scoring numbers from just 5.8 ppg in the first eight league contests to 15.6 ppg to go along with 8.1 rpg. Georgia went 6-4 over those last 10 games, compared to a 2-6 record in the previous eight. She has now scored in double figures in 11 of her last 13 games dating back to last season.

Georgia's Clark Already A College Graduate

A three-time selection to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Haley Clark graduated in just three years and received her diploma from UGA during graduation ceremonies this past May. Clark received her bachelor's degree in business and finance and is pursuing a master's in financial planning. One of her career goals is to work in corporate finance and help other athletes with financial planning.

Renewed Stegeman Creates New Environment

Lady Bulldog faithful might notice a few changes when they enter Stegeman Coliseum this season. An $8-million renovation concluded this past summer and is considered a huge success in enhancing the game day experience. The Coliseum's updated "look" features new black seats, an improved LED lighting system, a state-of-the-art sound system and graphics above the horseshoe end celebrating past teams and retired jerseys. What will catch spectators' eyes immediately, however, is the addition of a massive center-hung scoreboard. All of the aforementioned, coupled with considerably more LED graphics panels, will greatly enhance the atmosphere within the venue.
