Georgia Falls to No. 10 Florida, 3-0
October 01, 2017 | Soccer
ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia soccer dropped a 3-0 decision to the No. 10 Florida Gators on Sunday evening at the Turner Soccer Complex.Â
Â
"I thought we played well in the first half," head coach Billy Lesesne said. "We closed the space fairly well and we possessed the ball at midfield. We had two really good chances that we didn't put away in the first half. Credit to Florida. They came out in the second half and brought the intensity. They capitalized on two set pieces and we were chasing the game after that."
Â
Although both teams started the match going back and forth across the middle of the field, it was the Bulldogs (4-7-1, 0-4 SEC) who attacked first, taking three shots before the Gators (9-2, 3-1 SEC) had a chance.
Â
Georgia was able to take three shots on goal in the first half, compared to Florida's two, but could not capitalize as the scoreboard remained clean after 45 minutes of play.Â
Â
The Gators came out firing in the second half, dominating the field of play.Â
Â
Florida scored its first goal at the 53:53 mark off of a free kick by Briana Solis.
Â
Minutes later, a corner kick that bounced off the goal post and was finished by Florida's Cassie Owens brought the score to 2-0.
Â
With four minutes remaining in the game, goalkeeper Louise Hogrell came out of the box to grab the ball and missed. It rolled back behind her where Florida's Madison Alexander knocked it into the back of the bringing the score to 3-0.
