Georgia Falls to Auburn 4-2
September 25, 2016 | Soccer
ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia soccer scored two goals in the first half but it was not enough to defeat the Auburn Tigers as the Bulldogs dropped a 4-2 decision Sunday at the Turner Soccer Complex.

With the loss, Georgia falls to 3-7-1 on the season and 0-4 in Southeastern Conference play. Auburn advances to 7-4, 3-1.

"It was a tough game," Georgia head coach Billy Lesesne said. "It's a game where we played really well in the first half and probably won most of the opportunities, but to Auburn's credit they played really well in the second half and capitalized on their chances. We couldn't put a good 90 minutes together, we only got a good 45. We need to continue to follow through and push forward, so hopefully we can regroup before we head to Arkansas."

Georgia jumped to an early lead over Auburn in the 11th minute of play, with Marion Crowder scoring the Bulldogs' first goal in SEC action. A corner kick from Mariel Gutierrez allowed Maddie Burdick to boot the ball towards the net with Crowder making the final touch for the goal.

Auburn answered with a goal of its own in the 15th minute.

Georgia regained the lead as Bria Washington passed the ball up to Crowder who was able to find the back of the net for her second goal of the game. This marks Crowder's fifth goal of the season, surpassing her season high of four in 2015. This is also her second multiple-goal game of the season as Crowder scored two against Samford on Aug. 26.

Georgia took the 2-1 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Auburn applied pressure in the second half and was able to score the equalizer in the 49th minute.

The Tigers took off from there as they scored the go-ahead goal in the 61st minute and the Bulldogs could not recover.

Georgia was able to hold the Tigers to just six shots in the second half, but could not capitalize on its own five shots taken in the last 45 minutes of play.

Auburn sealed the win with less than six minutes to play, taking a 4-2 victory over Georgia.

Georgia returns to action on Friday, Sept. 30 as the team travels to Arkansas to face the Razorbacks.
