Georgia Completes Weekend Sweep

HARRINGTON, Del. --- No. 1 Georgia equestrian picked up their second win of the weekend after downing Delaware State 9-5. The Bulldogs have improved to 3-0 on the season. Jessica Blum (Equitation on the Flat), Kyndall Harper (Reining) and Heather Schmidt (Horsemanship) earned MVP honors for Georgia.

This was a fantastic experience on the road with new horses," head coach Meghan Boenig said. "We are very grateful for Delaware State for hosting this competition. There are definitely some adjustments we have to make as we get ready for competition against Oklahoma State."

Competition started with Equitation Over Fences where Delaware State outscored Georgia 2-1. Delaware State took the first point before Jessica Blum grabbed a point over Delaware State's Tiffany Lee 83-82. Emma Mandarino and her opponent rode to a tie with a score of 85. Delaware State won the final point of the event.

In Equitation on the Flat, Georgia won the first two points with Jessica Blum and Liza Finsness outscoring Delaware State 86-0 and 85-77, respectively. Delaware State earned the next point before Meg O'Mara defeated Hayley Anderson 77-67. Going into the western portion of competition, the Bulldogs led the Hornets 4-3.

Georgia pulled ahead in Reining with a score of 3-0. Lauren Garmon won the first point before Kyndall Harper grabbed a point from Delaware State outscoring her opponent 66.5-66. Charley Thiel and Delaware State's Elizabeth Koons rode to a tie score of 61.5. Claudia Spreng earned the final point of the event 65.5-64.

Georgia and Delaware State split a 2-2 decision in Horsemanship. Delaware State's Brooke Moore won the first point over Georgia's Sammie Johnson 75.5-75. Heather Schmidt won the next point for Georgia 76-71 before Bailey Anderson defeated her opponent 74.5-71. Delaware State's Abi Buckwalter closed out the event grabbing the final point for the Hornets.

The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Hornets of Delaware State 9-5.

Georgia will be back in action on Oct. 16, when they take on Oklahoma State at home in Bishop, Ga. Competition is slated to start at 2 p.m.
