ATHENS, Ga. --- Persistent lightning in the area caused the cancellation of Friday night’s Georgia soccer game against in-state rival Mercer at the UGA Soccer Stadium. The game was suspended just five minutes after halftime and could not be resumed. Because it did not reach the necessary 70 minutes, it is declared a no-contest.
Georgia has not had a game cancelled since the 2004 season. At the time of the delay, the score was 0-0 and the Bulldogs led 10-1 in the shot column.
The Bulldogs (4-1-1) are on the road on Sunday, traveling to take on Furman at 6 p.m. in the final non-conference tune-up of the season.
